Katee Robert deserves a spot on amongst the Thirteen because they are a straight up God of writing dark romance. Hoooooly smokes was Sweet Obsession a wild ride. So spicy, so heartfelt, so chaotic. I loved it! Not only is the lots of political turmoil to follow and be riveted by, but the emotional connection between Icarus and Poseidon is simply beautiful. Full of kink and consensual debauchery, yes, but it’s also beautiful. I think Wally loved this story and the ending especially hit me right in the feels. Another win for Robert!

This book stayed very true to the story that Katee has been crafting along this series. I was so happy to see Icharus' back story becasue we all knew he was more than the vapid party boy he was shown as previously. His relationship with Poseidon was sweet and I loved how they took care of each other.

My one pet peeve is the overuse of a single nickname, big guy. It was cute and I felt like it was fitting, but after repeated usage, it lost its luster.

Katee is great at including such diverse representation in relationship type and kink. This one wasn't my particular flavor, but I still found it enjoyable to read.

Thank you to netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the ARC of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review!

I am beyond excited to have the opportunity to get an advanced copy of this audiobook. I have read all of the Katee Robert books in this series, the moment they come out, so receiving this ARC was an ARC dream.
That being said, this was yet another great installment into the Neon Gods series. Of course this book is filled with spicy scenes. This book follows Poseidon and Icarus, and their love dynamic. Sorry for any spoilers there.
The reason why I love these books so much is because Katee Robert creates this elaborate story and includes the spice as a secondary part to the book. Without the spice, these books would still be about Power -- the fight to maintain it, the ways to manipulate it, and the way to avoid it.
This book is no different. I am heavily invested into what is going on within Olympus.
The relationship between Poseidon and Icarus is sweet and raw.
I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys mythology adjacent books, along with spice.
I have hopes for where I think these books will ultimately end. Either way, we still have some time before that happens. I just really love these books!
This one isn't my favorite in the series but they are never bad books. Not even close.

Sweet Obsession by Katee Robert 📖🔥

The heat is on in this latest installment of the series! 🌊⚔️ Sweet Obsession picks up right where we left off—so make sure you’re reading in order!

Poseidon and Icarus start as enemies on opposite sides of the conflict, but when Poseidon takes Icarus captive, the tension really starts to sizzle. 🔥😏 Their dynamic? A delicious mix of Dom/Sub, spice, and kink exploration. 👀💥

Plus, the overarching plot keeps building toward an epic showdown! If you’re into MM romance with serious heat, you need this book. 🔥❤️

I have read all of this series and several other books by Katee Robert and I absolutely have loved every experience of their books. This one may be my favorite so far and honestly surprisingly so! In dark Olympus, I feel like most of the other love stories were a little bit hinted at by hearing or seeing previous interactions with the main characters. However, we’ve never really seen interactions between Icarus and Poseidon prior to this book and so I didn’t really know what to expect. I absolutely fell in love with both of the main characters and their beautiful story. I love the way that we get to see their story unravel together and learn so much about Them as individuals. I loved getting to hear their story while also getting an update on everything that’s happening in Olympus. I absolutely loved this book and it may be one of my favorites of my 2025 reads thus far!

On the midst of war, the barrier to Dark Olympus has fallen, and Circe is closing in to take over. This book features Poseidon and his “prisoner” Icarus. Icarus is a pawn in the war games, but Poseidon feels himself being drawn to him for more than that.

There’s a mutual attraction and the power dynamic seems to shift between closed door. Super spicy, great audio narration, the plot is developing and anxious to have the next book and get this wrapped up to see how it all ends!

Thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the ALC in exchange for an honest review. Release date 4/1/25.

This one was so good and seriously steamy!
Icarus is completely at the mercy of the powerful 13, and Poseidon has his sights set on him to extract some crucial information. It’s a dark captive romance that somehow just works for both characters. Poseidon is such a gentle giant, and he balances Icarus so well. While Poseidon is focused on Icarus, there’s also another plot unraveling with the 13, and the political moves in this story are so addicting. I was completely hooked, just waiting to see what would happen next and who would make the next move. The narrators, Alex Moorcock and Will Watt, did a great job bringing the characters to life. I especially loved Poseidon’s voice. I did feel like the narrator for Icarus struggled a bit with the tones and inflections for female voices, but overall, they both did well. Can't wait to see what happens next!

ALC for Net Galley and Dreamscape Media

This is officially my second favorite book in the Dark Olympus Series. Hades and Persephone will forever hold the top spot. However, Icarus and Poseidon were so lovely... the exact opposite of what I was expecting from this book.

Their stories, the spice, and conclusion were fantastic. Poseidon will immediately win you over and you will slowly fall in love with Icarus. The power dynamic with this couple was truly unexpected and amazing.

Narration by Alex Moorcock and Will Watt was excellent.

I believe in small dom/large bottom supremacy. This is one of my favorite Dark Olympus books yet! I love the characters, and the spice was unique in the dynamic

Having read several of the Dark Olympus series in the past I was pleased to be able to review an audio book of the upcoming title in which he series.

I am a recent convert to audio books and enjoyed the dual narration. As with previous titles in the series the story is told in alternating chapters by each of the protagonists. I wasn’t sure this couple would keep my interest but I was pleasantly surprised that I was rooting for the right outcome.

I like the way these novels tell the romantic story alongside the underpinning narrative around the fall of the barrier and imminent danger presented by Circe. Can’t wait for the next one.

Book 8 of the Dark Olympus series. This book is the retelling of Poseidon and Icarus. In true Katee Roberts form - we get a lot of erotica/spice. We also advance the series plot a bit forward - the walls are down and war is looming.

If I ranked this book in comparison to the rest in the series, this would be mid range to lower half. It's not that I disliked it, but I felt more hooked in other books of this series. I also feel very strongly that I need a character list for the series (including their real names and their titles) - if I go too long between books then I feel like I need even more of a refresher - wouldn't it be great if we got a little "recap" at the start of each book? (a girl can dream!)

Thanks to the Netgalley and the publisher for the free advanced audiobook in exchange for a review! I enjoyed the dual narration. Release date: 04/01/2025

I'd say 3.25-3.5 out of 5
Spicy Pepper-meter is 4.5 out of 5

This series has redeemed itself for me, I’m looking forward to the final two books, if anything, this book made me excited for the next book of Zeus and Hera.
I did find myself skipping through the smut scenes, Poseidon was endearing but they just weren’t for me.
I do enjoy when we see Hades in the books and the unfolding of Circe.
Thank you to Dreamscape Media for the advanced copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

Sweet Obsession is book number 8 in the Dark Olympus series. It follows Poseidon and Icarus's journey following the events of the previous book. I am an avid fan of this series and was very excited to receive this ARC. I thoroughly enjoyed following another couple in this universe and the dynamic between Icarus and Poseidon, while power imbalanced at first, turns into something so good and steamy to read.

The politics in this book get more complicated and I'm so invested in the story. I wish I could read this book from the beginning again. I loved reading this and would definitely recommend this to friends. I'm excited that we got a really nice set up for Zeus and Hera's story. 5/5.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.

3.5 rounded up to a 4. Overall a fun read but a few things brought it down. Was not a fan of the nickname used. I also listened to this via audiobook and one of the narrators used a voice for Icarus that just did not match in my opinion. The main Icarus voice and the main Poseidon voices were fine if that makes sense. Still an overall fun read and better than some of the others in the series.

If Katee Roberts writes it, I AM GOING TO EAT IT UP. This book was everything I thought it would be. I was so hooked from the beginning. The narrators for this book were phenomenal and kept me engaged. I loved the build up between Poseidon and Icarus. All in all, READ THIS BOOK.

This whole series has been so great to read. I am so sad we only have a couple more books.

I love that we are getting closer and closer to whatever kind of catastrophe Olympus seems to be headed for. Honestly a part of me hopes it falls and those that are left and build back something better.

In this one Icarus is “taken prisoner” by Poseidon but he doesn’t really stay a prisoner for long 😏. I enjoyed these two characters together and the ending was really sweet 🥹

The narrators were really great!

Thank you to NetGalley for this arc. I give this 4.5 stars and 4 chili peppers for spice. I read this book as a standalone, as I haven’t read any of the rest of the series. I actually really enjoyed it. There were a few parts in the plot that I could realize I was missing something from the earlier books but it honestly didn’t make a difference as far as my understanding the story went. I loved the reverse dominant submissive aspect of Poseidon and Icarus’s characters. I also loved how Poseidon was just a giant teddy bear when it came to Icarus. The plot was full of ups and downs and I never felt bored. I honestly felt like the story could have been a little bit longer just because I enjoyed reading the characters so much. The audiobook narrators are two of my favorites and goodness did they deliver a spicy performance. After reading this book I am for sure going to go back and read a couple of the other books in the series now because my curiosity is getting the better of me.
