This was an interesting but short sampler for "Seraphina". It's worth reading if you're interested in this story.

While I kept getting confused while I read, this book seems like it would be a good fit for any fantasy reader who is reading middle grade fiction. Enjoyed the characters, but there was just too much jumping around with little notification for me.

My mistake not seeing it was a chapter sampler, i had hoped it was the full book. But the sample i got was a bit, meh? I expected more,... honestly. it felt messy and slightly boring.

loved this book. I loved the story line and the world itself. I really wish there were more books to it. But from what I remember it ended okay.

I received an e-ARC chapter sampler from the author/publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

From the little I read, I was swept away into the world of Seraphina, a land where humans and dragons exist. The writing was super easy to read. The plot hadn't really taken off, but the bones of the story were intriguing. I also liked our main character, Seraphina, a half human, half-dragon, who is swept up into an investigation into the murder of the royal family.
Can't wait to read the whole book, plus the companion novel Tess of the Road.

This excerpt was very confusing to me. It’s definitely not a fantasy that I could get into unfortunately.

Sadly this book was archived before I could download to read it. It has been added to my TBR and I’ll keep an eye out for it again in the future or at my local library.

This was an interesting peak at the book. I'm always looking for more fantasies, especially ones with Dragons! From what I read, I may consider picking it up in future and reading it but it's definitely not high priority. But I did enjoy what I read of it.

Seraphina is a truly enchanting and magical story. Just the main protagonist, Seraphina, alone is shown as a great heroine in the story she has depth, smartly intelligent, brave and funny at times. Her character in combination with the past between the humans and the dragons AND the way the dragons are shown make Seraphina an enjoyable read. Take the time to immerse yourself in the musical and colourful filled world of Seraphina!

My son enjoyed this— a little dark but certainly recommended for fans of the genre. My son’s comment was that the characters were very strong.

It is hard to judge the book based off the excerpt. I found the writing style hard to follow and the plot a little confusing. It was intriguing but not a book I'd be interested in pursuing.

Beautiful.

This book connected with me on a much more personal level than most fantasies have. Part of the reason I love Seraphina is because it is exactly the type of book I would want write, if I could ever pull it off. The characters are relatable, young but not impetuous, playful but able to pin down some dribs and drabs of philosophy.

Beyond this, it was the musical aspect which stole my heart. Yes, I'm a band geek, and I own it proudly like the rest of our kind, but the incorporation of different musical instruments added another level of beauty to the piece. It is as if, when reading a work of art, one is immersed in yet another form at the same time.

On the whole, it all comes together to form an engaging piece of true literature. Double thumbs up.

This was so fun! Children's fiction can be the best sometimes. And there's dragons! Can't wait to read the rest

This was only a section of the novel but I liked what I read so far. I really love how descriptive the writing is.

As I wrote in my review of Tess of the Road, I was so enthusiastic about this universe, and writer that before I finished the book, I'd bought the first two in the series. I can report that the first of these, Seraphina, did not disappoint.

We have a universe where humans and dragons co-exist. After a long history of warfare between them, there has been a treaty, and while each group remains ambivalent about the other, the peace has held for many years. And then the king's son is killed, and it looks as if a dragon did the deed, threatening the fragile peace.

In the center of all this is Seraphina, a musician, tutor to Princess Glisselda, and a half-breed; half dragon, half human. Common knowledge says she should not exist, but Seraphina is never one to be led by what is supposed to happen. She's a fiercely independent woman, who keeps her secret almost more to protect her family than anything else since relations between humans and dragons are illegal. The dragons do not even speak Seraphina's mother's name, so enormous was her shame at marrying a human.

These first chapters were the perfect combination of an interesting and original story written in the way of fantasy like I have loved it for a long time. I think I should really buy the whole book one day!

***Received excerpt of the book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review***
I was disappointed that this was just an excerpt. I liked the excerpt and enjoyed it through and through. I am looking forward to reading the full book once it's released.

Thank you, NetGalley, the author and the publisher for providing me with the excerpt.

Dragons often provide a great foundation for a story, but this one had me drawn in quickly! Now I just need to purchase a copy to find out what happens in the rest of the story!
