Holy wow! This book was SPICY! As a well seasoned smut reader, even I was blushing!
First of all, a dark medical romance? Say less.
Okay, but this is not just any ol’ doctor. The man is a gynecologist. As if getting a pap wasn’t torture enough, I now get the experience them with this book in my mind lol.
But seriously… I don’t know what made me more uncomfortable, the contents of this book or the fact that I enjoyed reading it.
The spice really do be spicy. Like almost too much to handle. So if you are a new to smut, I definitely wouldn’t pick this one up. On second thought, even if you are an experienced smut reader, this book will still probably shock you. In a good way of course.
As for the plot…. Yeah, I’m kinda torn on this one. On one hand, I really wish there was more depth to the storyline and that it wasn’t so rushed, on the other, I loved how fast paced and easy to read this book was.
All in all, I would say, if you are someone who enjoys a well structured romance with a hint of spice, this not the book for you. This book was definitely more smut than plot but I’m not mad at it and I’m certainly not judging anyone who prefers these kinds of reads.
On top of the shocking physical intimacy, this book is DARK. But not like the knife play and heavy emotions that I’m used to. No, Adam is undoubtedly a psychopath and he scared the shit out of me lol. I’ve read plenty of dark romance before, but Adam is on a whole other level.
Now is probably a good time to mention triggers and boy is this book triggering…
There is some details on past child abuse and bouncing from foster to foster homes. One of the main characters has some serious trauma and detailed panic attacks. Mentions of bullying. Sexual harassment from coworker. Also, stalking but some might call that a bonus.
With all of that said, I genuinely enjoyed this read. With all of the messed up stuff I read, it is very rare for a book to shock me anymore but this one had me all kinds of flabbergasted. I totally loved it and appreciate any author that can successfully make me feel uncomfortable. I live for this.
Personally, I would recommend this book to a select group of individuals.
Specifically, anyone who loves seriously dark romance with morally black MMCs and smut so kinky you literally put a lock on your kindle less someone discovers what you’re reading. (This book literally made me do that lol)
I absolutely would not recommend to anyone who doesn’t like smut forward books or anyone who prefers their smut to be extra vanilla. This is not your book.
And I specially would not recommend to anyone who says Lights Out is the darkest book they ever read. That book is actually really tame and so I would also have to say this is also not your read.
(Also, I enjoyed Lights Out, so don’t come for me. I’m just trying to give you a basis to go off of.)

Deeply Examined is a surprisingly fast read for a dark medical romance. I thought there was going to be more medical action but that's more than made up for by the dark romance parts!
Jessica Jones is a struggling high school teacher who goes to see Dr. Adam West for her annual check-up. The twist is that they actually know each other from high school but although she doesn't remember him, he has always remembered and had a crush on her. Their initial interactions are immediately sizzling and that continues as their relationship grows. Despite all the fears and concerns that crop up, their attraction to one another flourishes.
If you are a fan of a doctor/patient forbidden romance with a side of forced proximity and possessiveness, Jessica and Adam's story just might be what you're looking for!
Thank you to NetGalley and Lexi Davis for gifting me the opportunity to read this ARC! All opinions are my own.

4.5 stars rounded up to 5. Loved it!! I was so excited when I received this eARC because I’ve been seeing it everywhere and was getting FOMO! I knocked a half a star off only because it was short and I wanted MORE! Lol! It was like a spicy episode of Greys Anatomy and I was here for it! I’m excited to learn about the MCs backstories and that cliffhanger! 👀 This book is taboo with a doctor/patient relationship so check TW! But I highly recommend!
*Huge thank to NetGalley, the publisher and Lexi Davis for providing me with this eARC in exchange for an honest review

The Menu:
Stalker/Obsessed MMC
Medical Play
"F*** it"
I'm gonna be up front. Those first few pages had me questioning whether I was going to stick with it. I felt like the consent was dubious (she liked it so he kept going) at best. But I digress.
Once we skirted past that bit there, we get to the meat of the story. Which is that once Adam West (brooding, billionaire anyone?) sees Jessica Jones (that's 2!) In his medical table, he likes her and he wants her. And that's it. From there we got some manipulation on the part of Adam, willful obliviousness from Jessica. But truthfully if he's not watching me in his secret computer room and Stalking me, does he REALLY care?

4.5 stars
I didn't know that dark forbidden medical romance and a deeply troubled, obsessive, possessive MMC was going to be my thing, but here we are.
(inside my head some part of my brain is asking myself what the heck is wrong with me. the rest of my brain said shhhh let's keep reading and then it said wow, bravo by the end)
I enjoyed the sunshine FMC, Jessica, with her big heart and the way she embraces new pieces of herself. Jessica is a teacher in a poor area of Chicago but cares deeply for her students.
I DEFINITELY enjoyed morally gray MMC, Adam, that is tremendously guarded, calculated, and in control... until Jessica shows up in his exam room and the control starts to unravel. Adam is a complex walking red flag... That's all I'm gonna say about that. I don't want to give anything away.
It was quick to get to the spice, but that was not all the content of the book was and THAT was perfect for me. There is a relationship that builds slowly and steadily. One that I rather enjoyed as each person becomes a better version of themselves when they're together.
CHECK THE TRIGGER WARNING LIST if you have any triggers.
Grateful to NetGalley and Lexi Davis for the opportunity to read this book and share my thoughts on it.

Deeply Examined is a thrilling, dark, and deliciously twisted romance that grips you from the first page and never loosens its hold. Lexi Davis crafts a story that blends obsession, vulnerability, and forbidden attraction against a haunting medical backdrop. The power dynamics are intense, the writing is razor-sharp, and the emotional stakes are sky-high.
The chemistry between the characters is palpable and laced with danger, and the plot keeps you on edge in all the best ways. This isn’t a lighthearted love story—it’s raw, seductive, and psychologically immersive. Perfect for fans of dark romance who are looking for something bold, edgy, and entirely unforgettable.

This book was pretty good, I would definitely recommend
~This was given by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

This book throws you right into the deep end at the very beginning! If you like a medical romance then this is definitely the book for you! It’s a quick easy read and you get sucked in from the very beginning! It’s a great plot with super spicy scenes! It’s my first dark medical romance and I can say that I will definitely be on the lookout for more books in this genre. I couldn’t put it down! There is a twist in the middle of the book that I definitely didn’t see coming! I love how the mmc is a grumpy guy with childhood trauma that we see how he is able to change his life for the better and how he seems to be able to let go of some trauma because of her! The fmc is a sunshine who falls hard for the mmc. I loved how she was able to be more confident and was able to take control of her life and the things she had to endure! I loved seeing their relationship grow and the things they work together with all the things they had to go through! My favorite quotes from the book…”When you love someone, they test you, stretch the fabric of your morals, redefine your self-worth. Love transforms, sometimes it brings out your best, or it can make you become smaller, a worse version of yourself.” I would definitely give this a read if I were you! I’m really looking forward to the next book in the series! I had the privilege of receiving this book as an arc through NetGalley and I’m freely giving my honest thoughts and opinions!

This was my first medical romance and I’m relatively new to requesting ARCs, so this was an exciting experience for me! I had previously requested an ARC from this author and received “part two”, which turned out to be the middle of this book. Naturally, I was thrilled to finally read the full story from beginning to end.
The spice in this book definitely spices things up, and Jessica is truly the sunshine in Dr. Adam West’s life. He’s a dark, brooding character with a few boundary issues and some stalking tendencies, but honestly, I love a good "unhinged fixer-upper" story. Dr. West has been in love with Jessica since high school, and the whole book revolves around him trying to live out his greatest desire of being with Jessica.
Overall, I enjoyed the story! It was fun and entertaining read and definitely a short read. The pacing felt a bit rushed in parts, though, and I wish it had slowed down a little to develop things more. But, hey, I still had a great time! As someone who loves a good stalker romance, I wish there had been more of the "stalking" before they finally got together (that’s my unhinged side speaking, LOL).
If you're into:
• Doctor/Patient
• Forbidden Love
• Stalker Romance
• Secret Identity
• Role Play
Thank you to Lexi Davis for the eARC and to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this.

I finished this beauty yesterday, and let me just say, the spice was spicing! For a book that leans heavily into intensity and heat, it absolutely delivered on that front.
I really enjoyed this one. It’s a fast-paced, spicy, and emotionally twisted dark medical romance that completely caught me off guard in a good way. Dr. West is definitely unhinged, possessive, and just a little morally gray… but the growth, trauma, and vulnerability he shows throughout the story made me root for him. Jessica’s strength and emotional depth brought so much heart to the book. Even with all the kinks and drama, the emotional connection between the characters stayed strong and consistent.
There were a few things I didn’t fully agree with like some character decisions didn’t sit quite right with me, but you understand why they are the way they are. I’ve read plenty of spicy novels, but this was my first time reading a dark medical romance, so, I felt like some scenes and elements weren’t really my vibe, but still so spicyyy! That said, I still found myself enjoying the story overall and would definitely recommend it to readers who are into dark medical romance.
I’ll be posting a full review once the book is officially published, but I really appreciated how well the characters were written as individuals. I liked that even though this is a dark and spicy read, there was still a strong focus on character development and backstory. I do wish we got a little more of their journeys and a deeper look into their relationship dynamic, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we’ll get more of these two in the future.

read this in one sitting. definitely had some twists in it that made it interesting. Had good pace and the tension happened from the start.

Dr Adam wasnt always the gorgeous and respected doctor he is today. once he was the picked on young boy who doesnt get a look in. so why would Jessica have noticed how in love he was with her back then? she wouldnt. and she doesnt know its lasted and is still the case to this day. so when Jessica steps in for her annual review and is instantly transifxed by him, well things start to get interesting.
i appreciate these romances arent for everyone. and i think thats ok. but its also okay to read these kinds of books and enjoy them. it doesnt mean the reader is morally corrupt or likes disturbing sometimes toxic kind of relationships. books are a safe space to explore different angles of people and life. and they are certainly thinking points.
because whilst i thought this book was a gripping one. i certainly hope none of these things occur in my life.
but this book was a spicy angle on the medical romance genre. the characters were way better fleshed out in this. so for me it added a better level of understanding and charm to it. and had you feeling a deeper understanding of both of them as a pair and apart.
the proximity of tension between these two when they were together was off the scale.
our heroin was indeed the bright sunshine character. and our hero had his issues that made him react and of act the way he did.
this book is a a gooden for anyone who is into this genre. i would recommend to anyone.

Chapters 1-5

I do have a question though what ever happened to the first gift that West(Adam) gave Jessica? I don't think We ever hear about it ?
Jessica is getting ready to have a house call from Dr.West and I CAN'T WAIT to see what Lexi has in store for us.
I CAN'T WAIT to read more

When Jessica went in for a routine check up, she didn’t expect her doctor to be hot as sin. She’s immediately attracted to him, which makes her appointment a bit awkward.
Dr. West is the doctor all the ladies gush over. He’s surprised to see that Jessica is his new patient. When they were in high school together, he had a crush on her. But she was popular and he was the kid with a troubled home life. Now he’s the one in control and he plans on using it to his advantage.
Dr. West makes Jessica feel things that she hasn’t before. But he’s only looking for something physical.
When her safety is threaten, he demands she move in with him. He just has a couple rules - they will not sleep in the same bed and don’t go into the locked room. The more time they spend under the same roof the harder it becomes to stick to the rules. Deep conversations and passionate nights turn their relationship into something more. But when Dr. West’s secrets are revealed, Jessica can’t help but wonder if everything was a lie. Now she has to decide if their love is enough to look past everything or if the lies are too much to forgive.
This book was a wild ride. Aside from all the spice, there is a suspenseful plot line in the story which I liked. Dr. West had a troubled childhood and there were secrets he was hiding from Jessica. Jessica may have been the popular cheerleader in high school, but she felt very alone. After she opened up to Dr. West, you start to see him soften up to her. I liked that we got to see their relationship evolve into something more than just a physical one. Towards the end of the book all the reveals just kept coming. Adam was something else lol. I was shocked at what he did to Jessica. As I was reading, I was thinking “you’re going too far”, “you’re going to lose her.” And just when I thought he learned his lesson, he did it again but in a different way. I did like how he brought out a different side of Jessica. She became more confident and was able to express what she wanted more easily. I was also happy that Adam opened up more about his childhood to Jessica, so she was able to understand him better. Even though I do not condone what he did and how he acted in some parts at all, I was still happy they ended up together in the end!
Thank you Lexi Davis for the ARC!

4.25⭐
Dark, twisted and mostly extremely hot. Definitely read the trigger warnings the author provides. Actually the back stories of the main characters were more compelling and fleshed out than expected turning this dark romance into an actual love story. Thanks to the author and netgalley for the ARC. My opinions are unbiased and totally my own.

Thank you to Netgalley and Lexi Davis for the ARC.
This was a book was an intense dark romance between a doctor and his patient/high school crush. West was the quintessential damaged and possessive MMC and Jessica the open hearted heroine. This story explores obsession, trauma, and desire in a tension packed quick read. There are many red flags, but it wouldn’t be a dark romance without some suspension of disbelief. All in all it was a steamy, taboo fun ride.

I just want to say thank you to NetGalley and Lexi Davis for giving me this opportunity to read my very first ARC! This book is SPICY but not the spiciest book I’ve ever read. It gives 50 Shades of Grey vibes within a doctor/patient kirk. 10/10 recommend this book! It’s also a great palette cleanser and a quick read!

3.5/5 ⭐️
This was a little darker/spicier than I usually read, but the plot in it was great!
This was a forbidden dark romance between doctor and patient. You could feel the tension between West and Jessica from their first meeting! West was possessive, protective, and severely obsessive. Jessica pushed herself to new levels through this story and learned more about herself through West. The ending of this story was perfect!

This was interesting to say the least. this was my first medical romance in the aspect of their being medical play so i was definitely intrigued, it’s a doctor/patient trope. there are dark aspects but not completely dark. it’s a fast pace read, the book started off crazy from like ch 2 and i was like no way this is happening rn i was like “oh so we’re rlly doing this.” it was definitely steamy and moved along quickly. my heart went for the mmc because of his past but he was definitely not right in the head but i guess that’s what trauma does to you. we love an unhinged mmc. i liked seeing the fmc’s character development with the help of the mmc, he rlly taught her how to use her voice. the fmc is a teacher and the main thing i loved abt her was how much she advocated for her students, she rlly rode for them. overall, i think this was a fun read but at the same time check the triggers.

I went in thinking the medical kink might be where I tapped out—turns out, the kink was the least of my concerns.
*Deeply Examined* tries to sell West as a flawed but lovable MMC with a dominant streak. Instead, what we get is a controlling, manipulative man masquerading as a romantic hero. He installs hidden cameras throughout the house *without telling her.* Injects her with a tracker. Hides *another* tracker in the diamond earrings he gifts her. And the cherry on top? He pretends to be her doorman so he can eavesdrop on her through said earrings. WHAT.
When he tries to win her back, he flips the script: “This is what you do to me. You drive me to this.” That’s not remorse. That’s textbook emotional abuse. And his parting line? That no matter what she wants, he’ll always be watching her. HARD PASS.
This isn’t a dark romance. This is a red flag parade with some sex scenes.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review—sorry it had to be this honest.
