A dark, taboo, medical romance that starts with a bang! Quite literally.

Dr. Adam West can't believe it when Jessica Jones, his old high school obsession, finds her way into his medical office for her annual checkup. She doesn't recognise him, but he hasn't stopped thinking about her for a decade.

Jessica is a teacher in the high school both she and West attended; a run-down school with troubled students; she does her very best to help them. She's quiet, a pushover and can't stop thinking about her appointment with the crazy handsome Dr. West.

Neither of them can stay away from each other, Adam becomes more obsessed the more he gets to know Jessica, and Jessica loves getting beyond Adams carefully erected walls learning more and more about herself every day. He makes her strong, confident and feel wanted.

The spice was spicing, that's for sure. Medical kink isn't something I've read before, and I'm still a bit like.. do I like this? I don't hate it. New kink unlocked? Who knows (I had to Google some things 🤣)

Even though it was wildly different from other books from this author, her writing voice was still strong, which I LOVED. The character growth was authentic, the chemistry was sizzling from the first page, and the emotions came through strong. When Adam was talking about his past, I definitely teared up. That poor, broken man.

One thing I would've liked was Adam explaining to Jessica how his life was during school. She only really got a brief idea when Adam & Kent had a confrontation but I don't think she really realised just how difficult school was for him. It would've added another layer I think and given another reason as to why he didn't tell her.

Overall, I cannot and will not complain. Once I realised this was going to be something completely different than what I was used to (I knew it was going to be, but it's still something I had to wrap my own head around) I thoroughly enjoyed it. I read the whole book in less than 24 hours and had a great time.

The epilogue (the final, final one) had me kicking my feet smiling. I do wish we'd gotten to read that, but just knowing it happened was the cherry on top. Iykyk.

Thank you so much to Lexi Davis for sending me an e-arc to read! I'm one of your biggest cheerleaders 🙌

If fifty shades and greys anatomy had a baby this is it. I could not quit picturing Adam as doctor Shepherd and Jessica as Meredith. I loved this book! It’s such a quick spicy read, with a plot that keeps you engaged! This was the exact palette cleanser I needed to keep me out of a slump!

Thank you so much to Netgalley and Lexi Davis for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I loved the concept of this book. The forbidden elements of doctor/patient relationship really intrigued me, however I felt the execution thereof fell a bit flat.

The spice was great and the MMC had the perfect amount of crazy paired with possessive and obsessive tendencies. I wish they had a bit more chemistry and depth however this was a shorter book and that could contribute to the lack thereof.

Overall, the book was fast paced, it had a decent amount of plot to spice ratio and the happy ending wrapped it all up in a nice pretty bow.

This to me was medical drama meets 50 shades! I absolutely devoured this book. I loved the development of the MMC and FMC. 5 star read and can not wait for the next installment on the series!!

By far the steamiest, spiciest read of 2025!! Deeply Examined is a masterpiece of complex characters, secret yearning and vulnerable passion. The love and lust between Jessica and Adam was off the charts hot! From start to finish, I couldn’t put the book down. This is a must-read for all dark romance readers everywhere!!

Author Lexi Davis was not playing when she wrote this book!!! It kicks off immediately in chapter 1!!!!

Deeply Examined by Lexi Davis is a steamy spicy book. The spicy scenes were explicit but mixed with Lexi's writing style were done in a way that builds the scene and is well written. The tension added to the story development and reader engagement. The bonus?!?! There is also plot! Which is what kept my attention. PLOT and SMUT is always a great read.

I truly enjoyed the complicated dynamic of the main characters. The constant yearning.. ugh! Chef's kiss! Their character development was excellent because as the character's were learning and exploring one another; you were also learning and exploring that character. Which is an ode to the success in writing a dual POV. We are essentially living and seeing through the character's eyes.

The mixture of passion, vulnerability, and seduction mixed in with the complicated dynamics and fast pacing of the story kept me on the edge of my seat because I wanted to finish the book. I didn't want to put it down I was dying to know what was happening next. The anticipation was killing me because due to my own real world life I wasn't able to sit and read this book straight through like I wanted to. With the tension in this book TRUST ME you could def sit and read this in a day.

Jessica our FMC, goes into the office for her annual exam. Dr. West begins to examine her. His exam is not your typical exam because Dr. West has been obsessed with Jessica since high school and recognizes her right away. Jessica is utterly clueless. Dr. West has been obsessed with her since high school and she has been his most inspirational memory / spank bank to uh "work himself out". So when he has a chance to get his hands on her.... well....... ethical lines are crossed.

When she is accidentally scheduled for that annual visit without a pap smear , Jessica is called to come in to be seen in a last minute opening for Dr. West. That's just the beginning of a complicated situation-ship between doctor and patient. Let's face it the entire thing started off as a big TABOO. I'm pretty sure there are some ethical guidelines that have been blurred and crossed here. Yet, Jessica although aware, doesn't mind in the least. Which is why after the second incident she finds herself exchanging information and agreeing to a "date" with Dr. West.

This book takes you on a WILD ride. There is forced proximity, kink praise, kinks, obsession, secrets, touch her and die vibes, she's mine energy with possessiveness. There is dom/ sub play, suspense, passion, dual POVs, and unhinged!

The pacing of this book is fast and in a good way! It helps to keep you interested and involved in the story.

I love reading a good dark romance, but working in the medical field, reading a dark medical romance?? I have never! This is really a thrilling read. There are a lot of dark elements and triggers in this book so as always READ THE TRIGGER WARNINGS as some of the topics are not suitable for everyone.

In the real world I would have been dragging Jessica out of that office in chapter one and smacking sense into her! But in the dark romance world I had my soundtrack on repeat singing Britney "Gimme gimme more" LOL

Deeply Examined is highly recommended for Dark Romance lovers who don't mind those triggers.

Thanks to Lexi Davis and NetGalley for the eARC!

This my friends is for my dark romance readers. Don’t you just love the trope where he threats the guy in her building who is bothering her and telling her she is moving in with him because where she lives isn’t safe. *sigh, isn’t falling in love just magically.

This story follows Jessica and Adam, you’ve got he falls first, she was his high school crush/obsession and his her doctor, wayhey. They see each other for her first time in 15 YEARS but Jess doesn’t recognise Adam, but he sure as shit does. During her annual examination, he leavers her hotter than a hooker on satans lap and she sure as shit doesn’t complain about it.

Adam gives major Joe vibes from you.

Why am I basically living Jessica’s life? I am Jessica. Jessica is me except without the sexy doctor part which I think is unfair of her to be honest, like girl can we share?

His nob is not the only thing he sticking her penis fly trap, you also injects her with a tracker so he can find her at any given moment.

What an amazing read!!
This is an omnibus from an already existing series and gosh did I love it.
I got sucked into this book immediately, the story starts off strong, intriguing and spicy. It's written in double POV which I love, the way it goes back and forth during the book really suits the story.
It was like reading a dark Fifty Shades of Grey's Anatomy, and I am here for it.
Loved the suspense, it kept me on the edge of my seat during the whole thing. Oh and the spice? More than spicy. If you're uncomfortable with spice, this is not for you.

Before picking this up, I recommend reading the trigger warnings. But if you love dark romance, suspense and doctors... I'd get this one ASAP.

Thanks so much to Netgalley and Lexi Davis for giving me the opportunity to read this in advance and give my honest opinion about it.

Sigh - I’m so sorry, I really wanted to enjoy this and it’s been so long since I’ve read a dark/taboo romance but I think this showed that it will be my last one. Nothing bad to say about the author though, I just didn’t know it’s something I don’t enjoy until now.

I did read the trigger warnings (which I appreciated) and the doctor/patient relationship was taboo as it is and I was slowly pushing past it because morally grey is a great color! However, I’m not the biggest fan of manipulation and basically, stalker romance. **spoiler alert** The MMC injected the FMC with a tracker and when she found out and had it removed, he said that he had yet *another* tracker in the earrings he gave her. Good grief.

I think this book would be great for its intended audience, unfortunately, it is not me. I will make sure to release my review at least after release date and not rate it on goodreads as I could not finish it. I stopped once I found out the FMC had two trackers because WOW 😀

P.S. - the thermometer scene = wild

Okay, I love a dark taboo spicy romance but this one was WILD even for me. I’ve never read a medical romance before (at least not one that came with trigger warnings) and I’m leaving this book simultaneously intrigued and also never wanting to see an OBGYN again…

I’ll start with the parts I loved. If you know me, you know I love a possessive and obsessive love interest. Obsessed with her for years? That’s so romantic. Stalking her 24/7? He’s so attentive. I love the “I’ll never let you leave” trope and I love it even more when they really mean it.

The parts I didn’t like so much? Mostly the medical malpractice that I’ll be thinking about at every Pap smear for the rest of my life. I read a lot of messed up stuff and even I had my jaw dropped while reading *those* scenes (you know the ones). I understand it was a taboo romance and actually enjoyed the spice when I kept reminding myself this was all fictional but the idea of something like this existing in the real world is wild. Please, if you are a kinky mofo, do NOT go into gynecology, I beg you.

Severe medical malpractice aside, I really enjoyed this book as something new and unique, and am looking forward to (hopefully) a novel between Parker and Monica?? Please Lexi, I’ll beg.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me an ARC of this book in exchange for an open and honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Thank you Lexi/Melissa for allowing me the opportunity to ARC read your book. I truly enjoyed the fast paced story of Adam and Jessica’s journey to love. The spice right from the jump of the book definitely catches your attention, but as the story progresses it was heartwarming to see how Jessica helped Adam break down his walls and love her the way she deserved. I’ll be honest I wasn’t sure how Adam was going to redeem himself in the end, but the speech he gave really did have me tearing up. The only thing I wish there had been more of was maybe touching on Adam’s past of being bullied..the confrontation with Kent ended up being not as climactic as I expected. Overall this book helped me get out of a reading slump and was such a fun read. I can’t wait for the second book Deeply Desired! (Good reads review is linked below and I will create a TikTok video soon!)

This was my first ever medical romance read, and a really awaited release. I’ll admit it, I wasn’t sure at first how it would go, but I really liked it. I could feel my pulse shoot up as I read this story (for more reasons than one 😉). The little commentary that goes on in Dr. West’s and Jessica’s mind during their little meet-ups is definitely quite entertaining. I really like how we get a little sneak-peek into their past, leaving the readers full of suspense.

I relate so damn much to Adam, and Deeply Examined has grown to become a sort of comfort read for me, because I know I’m not alone in this, I know I’m not broken for feeling the way I feel when I’m in a relationship. When I signed up for this book, I just took it as any other dark romance, but I’d be lying if I said that’s all this book is to me. I’m guilty of being attached to Jessica’s and Adam’s story.

All in all, this is an extremely exciting read, though I’d suggest you go through the trigger list before doing so. The book had me feeling all sorts of emotions, and to be very honest, Adam’s and Jessica’s story is raw, emotional, and so much more. It’s a rocky ride for sure, but one so very worth it. Trust me when I tell you this book is going to tear you apart and then proceed to put the little pieces back together, and you’re gonna be grateful for it.

ARC Review
Deeply Examined: A Dark Medical Romance
Author: Lexi Davis
Rating: 4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

*Please Check Trigger Warnings*
Synopsis: When Jessica meets the dark and mysterious Dr. West at her annual exam, the chemistry between them is undeniable—but what she doesn’t know is that they share a hidden past. When danger forces her into his penthouse, their forbidden attraction deepens, unraveling secrets that could change everything.

This is how every spicy romance should open. I loved the characters. While the book is short the author did a great job of developing the characters and their background stories were touching. There’s plenty of spice but there’s also an actual plot instead of just smut which I enjoyed the most. Also the cliffhanger?!? I can’t wait for it. Monica and Parker would be so much fun together.

Thank you to the author Lexi Davis and NetGalley for approving me as an ARC reader!

Deeply Examined is a steamy and creative medical romance! The relationship between the two leads was fun to follow, and I’m excited to read more of Lexi Davis’ work.

"It's an intriguing take on dark romance, blending forbidden desires in a hospital setting with passionate outdoor encounters, wrapped in mystery and obsession.
Adam is a man with a dark past, one he carefully hides from the world. Despite his troubled history, he overcomes every obstacle to become a successful doctor.
Jessica is a dedicated teacher who cares deeply for underprivileged children. She teaches at the same school where her parents once worked, carrying on their legacy.
When Jessica goes for her annual examination at the hospital, she is unexpectedly assigned to Dr. Adam West. He remembers her from high school—she was the beautiful cheerleader, and he was the shy, nerdy senior who never had the courage to speak to her.
During the examination, an unexpected moment of passion unfolds—Adam gives Jessica an intimate experience that she enjoys but never speaks about. When she returns for a follow-up Pap smear, she is once again assigned to Adam. This time, he brings her to pleasure once more before boldly asking for her number.
Their connection deepens when they meet outside the hospital. Their night together is intense—Adam ties her to the bed, taking full control in ways Jessica thoroughly enjoys. But when she kisses him afterward, it unsettles him. Adam, who never allows himself emotional connections, panics and abruptly leaves.
This marks the beginning of something new—something neither of them expected. Their passion grows, but so does Adam’s obsession. Unlike Fifty Shades of Grey, this story takes a darker turn—Adam watches over Jessica, stalking her from the shadows and eliminating anyone who dares to harm her.
If you enjoy a smooth yet intense dark romance, this book is for you. Get ready for an addictive, thrilling journey that will keep you hooked until the last page!"

Thank you to NetGalley for for ARC of Deeply Examined in exchange for an honest review.

Jessica Jones (I got the reference!) thought she was just in for her regular check up with Dr West, but there was nothing regular about what happened behind the good doctor's closed doors.

Deeply Examined grabbed my attention as self confessed lover of MMC doctors in any romance - gimme a smart and caring man in a white coat any day, yes yes yes. What I perhaps didn't fully anticipate was quite how spicy this would be!

I'll be honest that the start of the book took me a little more by surprise than I expected - there's no wasted time getting in to it. I think sometimes I'd have liked a little more build up and background, for the pace to slow down a little and for a little more reasoning.

I also have to say, Jessica's friends - encouraging her?! They're all insane.

That said, I felt the book got in to it's stride about half way through when we got a bit more plot to balance out and I found the rest of the book easier to get through. The spice is hot and kinky so definitely heed those TWs.

This is definitely one of those books I almost wish was like 150 pages longer just to give it that final umph and knock it up another star rating or so - there's definitely a spark there.

I'd recommend if you're looking for something hot and different, quick and dark!

Firstly, thank you SO much for allowing me to read the e-arc! Secondly, i am LOVING this whole grey’s anatomy dark romance vibe we got going on here. I didn’t even know this was a genre but I am here for it. Spice was 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ and I really enjoyed the whole West redemption we seen. I loved how we can see how broken he is and why he is the way he is, it makes us love him a lil bit more. My only complaint (but not really a complaint) is how short it is. I would’ve loved a little bit more story i.e. the proposal or even a time jump so we can see how life is for them a few months/years down the road. However, on the flip side since it is a bit on the shorter side it is a perfect book to get you out of a slump or even something to read when you just need a break between anything longer like fantasy books. Oh, and I hope we get to see a Parker x Monica story! I bet that spice would be hella good too 👀
