The Wife's Silence is about a down on her luck woman who takes a job as a live in care taker for the wife of Thomas Cain, a successful bladesmith. Lucy quickly realizes that things aren't quite what they seem and works to uncover truths. The Wife's Silence was reminiscent of Verity and the Wife Upstairs (Hawkins and McFadden's). The plot twists were more like plot turns; didn't really shock me but overall a quick and engaging read.

This is also a new author for me, and I was immediately fascinated by the title and cover. Even before opening the book, you can feel that a psychological game is about to be played. Delightful!

We are introduced to Thomas Caine, who seeks help to care for his wife, Emilia, so he can focus on his job. Lucy seems like the perfect person for the role. But she tries very hard—perhaps too hard—and becomes overly protective. Why? The housekeeper, Consuelo, also doesn’t seem entirely trustworthy. What secrets does this house and its residents hold? Who can be trusted, and who is the true master manipulator?

The story takes place in the present, but to understand the background, Emilia takes us back to the past. Everything that happened there ultimately leads to the climax.

The question I’m left with at the end is: does one of the characters finally get a bright future, or does everything start all over again? I had the feeling that things were bound to take a wrong turn once more.

Some things were clear early on, while others took me completely by surprise. A very well-crafted story where, in the end, the villain gets what they deserve—but does the victim also become a villain in the process? 5 stars

Thank you

3.5 rounded up

Lucy Greer is down on her uppers and so she accepts the job offer from highly successful Thomas Caine to look after his wife Emilia, who has suffered a stroke. Lucy realises there’s something off about the situation from the start as Thomas didn’t go through the usual channels in order to employ a carer. Everything inside her screams danger from the moment she arrives at the huge show piece isolated mansion. The discoveries she makes in the house confirms her initial suspicions and the more time she spends with Emilia she knows there’s a big story here. Is this wife really silent or…? Lucy’s senses are on high alert but maybe Thomas’s are too.

This is a rollercoaster psychological thriller and a very engaging glide through read. You do have to suspend some disbelief, but it’s an entertaining journey. It’s fast paced, there’s plenty going on to keep your attention as you try to figure out the odd dynamics and power shifts. There are strange off key vibes from the start and warning bells that clang increasingly loudly. There is sadness and tragedy and herein lies a mystery to figure out. There are unpleasant behaviours from several characters that causes much tension and some hatred. There are plenty of twists but one big one isn’t too hard to figure out. It’s maybe resolved a bit too easily, it has the potential to sock between the eyes and it’s a pity that it didn’t do that.

Overall, this was this is a fun read and perfect for relaxing by the pool when summer finally arrives.

With thanks to NetGalley and especially to Storm Publishing for the much appreciated early copy and return for an honest review.

This book is fairly reminiscent of Verity by Colleen Hoover and The Wife Upstairs by Freida McFadden… in the beginning. Then it takes many twists and turns I couldn’t have predicted on my best day. This book also wraps up nicely in the end.

I do have a few lingering questions that I won’t mention here due to spoilers but overall, this was a new take on the trope of the “mentally ill” wife.

Thank you Amanda McKinney, Storm Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

A wonderfully absorbing tale of intrigue. Lots of plot twists and turns that kept me guessing to the end. Revenge often takes some time to achieve, but it’s definitely worth the wait!!

I absolutely loved this twisty book! Lucy is a new caregiver for 63-year-old Emilia who has had a stroke and cannot speak., She and her husband Thomas live in a palatial estate and have a young son who has been missing for years. Lucy enjoys the work at first but feels sorry for Emilia as she's basically comatose and there's not much for Lucy to do. But...this house and family holds so many crazy secrets that my head was spinning from the beginning to the end! Go in blind but prepare to have your mind blown!

I cannot believe how quickly I flew through this book. Initially when I first picked it up, I was just planning to read the first few chapters. However, the prologue was so enthralling that I ended up binging the entire thing.

This was was so fast paced. It was bingeable and so twisty. Immediately you get a sense of dread that is lurking just beneath the surface, making it incredibly hard to look away from. I liked that the story was told through different POVs. It gave me an insight into our main characters, even the antagonist. It's always a plus for me to be able to get a perspective from the villain of the story.

The plot twist I didn't see coming at all. I figured it out when the characters did we were clutching our pearls together LOL. I really enjoyed this one. It's not just a thriller but it's also about survival, betrayal, trauma and of course revenge and vindication. If you're looking for a fast, twisty read. Look no further than The Wife's Silence out May 23rd,2025!

Working for a handsome, successful man sounds like a dream to Lucy, especially once she sees where she will be living. She has been hired to take care of Thomas’ wife who had a stroke and needs 24/7 care. Soon Lucy starts to realize that this may be more of a nightmare than a dream as she learns more about the family and Thomas. The twist had my jaw on the floor and the book kept me engaged the entire time. This is a quick read as you won’t be able to put it down!

She sits motionless in the corner, white blonde hair framing her face like a halo, one finger tapping an endless rhythm on the leather armrest. 'This is Lucy,' Thomas says, gesturing to me. 'She's going to take care of you.' The tapping suddenly stops. Like a ballerina on a spindle, her head twists to meet my gaze, and her lips part into a silent scream! Wow wow wow!! The twists in this book! Omg I did not see that coming at all!! Great shocking twists! It also had great suspense, murders, mystery, gaslighting, abuse, and some crazy shocking moments! The storyline was very interesting! I highly recommend reading this book! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me! Can’t wait for more!

This book was a whirlwind of twists and turns! Excellent suspense thriller. I really enjoyed this one and even though it is similar to other books I have read in this genre, there are some surprises. The ending was a little anticlimactic for me but I still think this was really well done and I was hooked from page one.

Thank you NetGalley and Storm Publishing for access to the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Wife’s Silence by Amanda McKinney is a taut, eerie psychological thriller that hits hard from page one and doesn’t let up. The setup is classic—an outsider enters a troubled household—but McKinney twists it into something far more unsettling. Lucy Greer’s desperation makes her vulnerable, and that vulnerability is exactly what pulls you into the story.

The Caine house is rich with unease—every character drips with secrets, and the more Lucy digs, the darker it gets. The atmosphere is chilling, the pacing relentless, and the reveals hit like punches. Emilia, silent and trapped, becomes the heart of the story’s mystery, and the tension builds toward an explosive finale that’s both shocking and satisfying.

McKinney doesn’t just deliver twists—she delivers impact. This is psychological suspense done right: lean, sharp, and haunting.

The Wife’s Silence by Amanda McKinney is a dark and gripping psychological thriller that had me hooked from the very start. Full of deception, vengeance and carefully guarded secrets, it kept me guessing until the final page.

Lucy Greer is desperate to rebuild her life, so when she takes a job caring for Emilia Caine, the silent and ailing wife of wealthy entrepreneur Thomas Caine, she hopes it will be a fresh start. But from the moment she steps into the house, something feels off. The disappearance of the Caines' teenage son years ago still lingers over them, and everyone seems to be hiding something. The housekeeper has her theories, and the ex-wife has secrets, but it is Emilia who holds the darkest truth of all. Trapped in her silence, she knows exactly what happened—and with Lucy’s arrival, the carefully constructed lies are about to unravel.

This book was unsettling in the best way, filled with tension and shocking twists that had me racing through the pages. The atmosphere was so well crafted, and I found myself completely drawn into the mystery.
