Sea in My Cells starts with the narrator talking directly to the listener after playing, describing how they are hot and sweaty. It leads into drinking water, how your body is made of cells, and how those cells depend on water. We then go through a simple yet poetic description of the water cycle, looping all the way back to our child who is now ready to play again. An authors note at the end discusses some of the science and history of water and life. I think this book is a great introduction to the water cycle and would be good for starting a water cycle unit. It doesn't go super in-depth or use many scientific terms, but it lays out the ideas in an easy to understand format that is easy to build on. The illustrations are simple, yet beautiful and engaging.

Water, water all around ... but where does it all come from? Laura Alary explains the water cycle in a creative way that young people will understand and appreciate. The beautiful artwork is a wonderful compliment to the words, also - bringing the water cycle to life.

Very cute and informative book for kids! I think that it is very important to introduce science to children at soon as possible, and this book does a great job of informing without overwhelming. The art is also beautiful.

This nonfiction picture book is a simple introduction to the water cycle. It teaches kids about basic concepts through poetic text and beautiful illustrations, and even though this will be too simple for many elementary-aged kids, this is a great way to introduce early STEM concepts to little children.

A lovely way to show young children the water cycle and discuss aspects of biology. I think some of the concepts were beyond my children’s level of understanding (2&4) . They did really enjoy the illustrations. I thought there would be more of a rhyme scheme.

This is a book about the life cycle of water - how water can move from the sea into your cells and back out again. The illustrations are great.

Beautifully illustrated and written! It's like stream of consciousness scientifically, and talking all about the beautiful things water is and does for us... Needless to say I'm buying a copy for my classroom when this publishes!

Thank you to NetGalley and the author for providing me with a free eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed reading this book, but I think that it felt a little too poetic for the subject matter. The two didn't exactly work with each other because they didn't fit together. Allow me to explain a bit more: this book aims to teach kids about the cycle of water, and how it relates to us humans. The facts about water and the path it takes were written in more a fancy and poetic style, making the information seem less "realistic" or "plausible" (even though all of it is true). However, despite this disconnect, that doesn't mean that the book was "bad", and it was a rather faint/small issue in the grand scheme of things. The information given was actually very interesting, and I definitely think that kids will be fascinated to learn how water gets to them and where it goes after them. The illustrations definitely showed this journey in a literal, yet still fun way. The illustrator didn't leave really any blank space on the pages, which made for a highly immersive book.
Overall, this is a good book but could have been a bit more connected.
