With kingfisher Seven, Shawn Klomparens managed to write a grim, fast passed and captivating story.
Klomparens does a great job with the characters in the book. They're full of personality, their dialogue is unique and gives them each a recognizable voice. For this short of a book Klomparens did a great job at making these characters multifaceted and it really made me want to root for all of them.
The book leaves you hanging for just the right amount of time, cutting of character point of view chapters on cliffhangers but not making you wait too long before finding out what they'll do next.
The start of the book has some clunky exposition that leans towards info dumping and there is some jargon that I got hung up on (helicopter and gun models mostly) but this passed quickly and I didn't find myself thinking too much on it the further along I got. The jargon is also well placed for readers of a better understanding about the subject matter and not too overwhelming or important to the plot for those who aren't
The tension buildup is good, although sometimes it felt like characters figured plot points out a tad fast. This leads into how good I felt Klomparens handels show not tell.
He states some characters are smart or the best in their field, but I was overjoyed when this statement was reflected in their actions too.
All and all Kingfisher Seven does a great job at being a thriller and pulls you into the world of its characters.
All in all a 4/5 star book.
