A seemingly chance encounter during a business trip turns into a nightmare for Dana Carrington. A date with a handsome stranger becomes an abduction. Mike Sweeney drugs Dana and tells her he will kill her in exactly one year. He presents this as a gift, claiming this will allow Dana to live every moment to the fullest. She will get exactly one year, unless she goes to the police. Then Sweeney will torture and kill her immediately. When Dana returns home Sweeney seems to be everywhere. In her distress Dana consults private detective Carter Mays. Carter and the police try to track down Sweeney before he manages to kill Dana, and as he becomes more and more dangerous.
While the subject of the series is Cater Mays, the focus of the book is on Dana, and her flight from Sweeney. This book is absolutely full of suspense. It really is a page-turner. It grabs you immediately with action, and the suspense really carries. Sweeney is a total psychopath, and seems to be everywhere all the time. It's just believable enough to be scary. Despite that, it also manages to maintain a cozy feel. It's well done, and kept my attention. At the end of the book I'd figured out what the twist was with Sweeney- it was really the only possible solution. Still, this book kept me reading right to the end.

The book definitely makes you think twice about strangers.
I could picture the killer on shows like Criminal Minds, CSI, and so on.
