Wild Hearts by Jessica Burkhart is a fun, heartfelt story about following your passions and learning to find your own way. When Brie moves to a small town for her mom’s horse-riding career, she finds herself balancing new friendships, romance, and the challenges of fitting in. Perfect for fans of relatable, contemporary YA with a focus on self-discovery and adventure!
This If Only... series if a fun set that all centers around a forbidden love. When Brie and her father end up in a small town in Wyoming to build a hotel, they are met with opposition, as it will displace the wild Mustangs in the area. Lost Spring didn't feel like the typical heartwarming small town at first--there was some hostility that didn't allow for the acceptance that I was expecting.
Logan's and Brie's fathers have opposite stances, and that conflict translates into an instant attraction between their children. The romance is sweet and fluffy and I liked watching Brie's growth, especially as she learns things that she missed out on from moving around so much.
Content: mild romance
Thanks for the advanced readers copy. I was not able to get into this one, so I won't be proving a review on social media.
Wild Hearts is a cute story, fun and fast read. I don't really have anything major to say that was wrong with it. Mainly it was an okay story. It's a plot that I've read several times, there were a few things that I really liked though. The characters being one of those things.
Brie Carter's father's land development business has taken her family all over the world,
but as soon as they arrive at their new home in Lost Spring, Wyoming, the town turns out to protest. They don't want a new hotel if the resident mustang population will be displaced or hurt as part of the deal. Then Brie meets Logan, a gorgeous local who has a special connection to the mustangs, and she is immediately drawn to him . . . and the horses. However, with Logan's father leading the protests and Brie's father refusing to budge, it's clear that their parents are heading towards an all-out war. Can Brie and Logan find a way to save the mustangs and be together? Or is their love doomed from the start?
Altough I read a lot of YA, I've never read a book by Jessica Burkhart before, so I was very curious what to expect.
I was very impressed by the story of Wild Hearts. From the cover it seems like a very sweet YA romance, but trust me, this book has a serious dose of good drama! I really liked the somewhat forbidden romance between Brie and Logan. Brie has her share of obstacles to overcome along the way, what with her father being so against Logan and his father, the fact that she will have to up and move again once her dad's project is over, and how they can save the horses while keeping what they're doing a secret. It was also very refreshing that the setting of the book was so completely different than usual. No city life, but rural countryside with horses, which is beside writing, a passion of the author. You can read between the lines that she loves and knows everything about horses!
Overall I thought Wild Hearts was a fun, realistic and romantic story from Bloomsbury's If Only series. The previous books in this series where awesome, and so is Wild Hearts!
