I have been reading Jude Deveraux books since I was 13 years old. Curling up with a book by this author is better than chocolate or any comfort food. This book did not disappoint - still my favorite author after all these years.
I was unable to review books for quite a while and was unable to review these. I apologize for this and have only gotten back into reviewing again. I did enjoy the book though when I read it.
For me, each individual plot item listed above would of made a fabulous story but combined it became a mishmash of story lines and just plain distracting.
I did love some of the story but some not so much. Overall, I’d have to stick with I liked it. It was a cute, fun, easy and entertaining.
Jude Deveraux is the reason I learned where the library was located and spent hours walking back and forth to get the latest and greatest chapter in the Montgomery/Taggert family. The latest chapters are equally as amazing as the first chapters. I enjoyed this read. It was well worth the laundry piling up and the children annoying me to feed them. (PSA... no children starved in the reading of this book.)
This is the third book in the Nantucket Series by Jude Deveraux. I have to admit, I have not read the previous two books and I was sort of lost at first, but kept on with this story and it soon got better.
Hallie has just learned that she has inherited a house from a mysterious relative and her spoiled sister, Shelly, has been doing everything she can to steal it from her. Well, on a whim, Hallie flies out to Nantucket to take care of the house. What she finds there is that she already has someone staying in the house.
Jamie is staying in the house that Hallie has just inherited because he has had a skiing accident. Jamie is young and rich. This throws Hallie for a loop and she knows that once he is healed and his physical therapy is finished that he will be out and about flaunting his money again. That is not something she wants to deal with.
The ghosts of the past that are in this house have another plan for Jamie and Hallie that ends up bringing them closer than Hallie could have ever imagined. Hallie knows that Jamie is hiding something from her though because he won't let her get close to any part of him except his knee. Jamie suffers from PTSD but has not opened up to Hallie about it yet. Hallie is the only one that can keep his nightmares at bay though.
Will Jamie and Hallie end up getting their HEA? You will have to read this one to find out. I thought that Jude Deveraux did a great job with bringing the past into the future with the ghosts that had a little mind of their own when it came to Jamie and Hallie!! Great read!!
Third in the Nantucket Brides Trilogy, Ever After is a romance in the most classic sense. While Ever After can be a standalone, it will be even more satisfying to read the others in the series. A sweet idyllic love story, the element of ghostly interference adds to the charm. This is exactly the kind of book that fans of contemporary romance are looking for.
Summary:
Hallie Hartley hasn’t had it easy. She’s given up just about everything, even her love life, for her gorgeous stepsister, Shelly. Shelly has a way of getting whatever she wants and isn’t afraid to use emotional blackmail. When Hallie comes home early from work, she learns that a relative she never knew has left her a house on Nantucket and Shelly had committed fraud in order to steal it from her. Determined to take charge of her life Hallie throws caution to the wind and flies to Nantucket to start over.
Hallie and Jamie were wonderful to know. Their story was, romantic and sweet, though I felt like slIpping Hallie's stepsister from trying to steal from her.
While I enjoyed this story of Hallie and Jamie, I did not think it was Deveraux at her best. The setting of Nantucket was wonderful, and I liked the way it revolved around the characters being there to attend a wedding. Jamie and Hallie were good characters, but I hated the way Hallie let her stepsister Shelly run over her.
The romance between Hallie and Jamie was good, and I look forward to more from Deveraux.
