I've tried so, so hard to connect with this book because the premise is very unique, but I'm admitting defeat and throwing in the towel. The characters use very stilted language, there are way too many information dumps (showing is better than just telling), and even though I'm a Christian myself, I feel like the religious aspect of the book is the dominant part, but this book wasn't listed as Christian fiction, which feels deceptive. I will not be leaving a review, but I do appreciate the opportunity to read and review this book.
Father Frank McCarthy loved playing basketball. Rumor was he could have played ball professionally but his calling was to God and the priesthood. A man said “ Looks like you’re pretty good.” McCarthy said” I’m fair.” McCarthy asked the man if he wanted to play one on one and then the man came through the gate. The priest looked at the man and figured he was a government man. The man introduced himself as Special Agent Dennard Bennett, He said he was with Immigration and Custom Enforcement or ICE. He said he was there because because of Philip Beamer. McCarthy asked if he should know Phillip. Then Dennard said he was dead Then Father McCarthy didn’t understand why he was there.. Dennard said Phillip was murdered in South Carolina. Then Father McCarthy asked Dennard what brought him there? Dennard showed Father McCarthy a piece of paper with a verse from Revelations from the bible. Then the priest asked what did that verse have with the murder? Dennard said the only murder wasn’t in South Carolina. There were two others- one in London and one in Cairo. Then he showed the priest one of his business cards that were found by the bodies and when flipped over it said McCarthy knows. Also the three victims had been suspected in the plotting of three terrorist acts. Plots in London and Cairo had been thwarted last year. A plot in South Carolina was thwarted last week. Three foiled plots, three dead terrorism suspects. Investigations were still ongoing. But in relation to Beamer the evidence of a planned attack on a federal building was found on his computer's hard drive. He was killed before the attack could be carried out. He also added they had to find out who was behind the killings and how they were getting there information. Dennard said he didn’t care how the people got their information as long as they handed it over to the authorities. Kallie now has what she calls deja vu moments throughout her day. She sees things before they happen.
I couldn’t get into this book, it just wasn’t my kind of read. I am sure others will really enjoy it just not for me.
Wow! What a fascinating novel! Kali is finally getting back to her normal life after her mother's death from brain cancer. She is going to college when she starts having déjà vu experiences upon awaking in the morning. Why? What is causing this? The feelings are so intense that she mentions it to her grandmother. Her grandmother asks if she is going to church and who her minister is. Her grandmother calls Father Swagg and asks him to help her daughter. Meanwhile Kalli has met a boy named Seth who she likes. She also discovers a project at her college that is studying déjà vu where she meets Josh who is fascinated with her experiences. Kalli becomes more insecure and goes to see a psychic hoping to understand her déjà vu. She finds that there is a belief that time is a circle not linear. As she learns about her déjà vu she starts remembering more and more. So much more happens in this urban fantasy, that my review would turn into a book! There is a secret society, the FBI, demons, the goddess Kali, the original Adam and Eve, and angels in this mysterious yet compelling novel.
It is an urban fantasy that takes place in contemporary time. In the beginning of this novel, it starts off giving you just enough information about Kalli to make you want to know more about her. The author engages you with his writing in a suspenseful style. By the end of the book, you will be wanting volume two of "Rememberers" in print now! It is a fascinating story, don't miss out!
