This is the first book in the Comissaire Dupin series by Jean-Luc Bannalec. I think that this is a very good start to a great series.
This story starts off with a ninety-one year old being murdered. Who would do that kind of thing to an old person? Dupin is a caffeine loving Parisian transplant and will always be considered an outsider to the locals. Dupin is working in Brittany.
When Dupin is put on the murder case, he has his own way of doing things. None of the local people can imagine who would want to kill this man who is a local hotelier and considered a pillar of the community. Not surprisingly though, not every one in the community is willing to spill their well kept secrets about things that have gone on in the community.
The murder needs to get solved quickly because the vacationers that flock to the seaside community are going to be pouring in soon. Will Dupin be able to figure out who the murderer is in time? You have to read this one to find out. This was a great read with lots of mystery.
I read over half of this book, but just could not get into the story. I just could not make myself truly care because it seemed to move slowly in an uninviting way with a stiffness that put me off. I,was having to force myself to read and I kept losing interest because I just really didn't care about what came next, nor what had already happened. I did absolutely love the cover though.
