Kathleen Fuller brings the giggles in this one! Daisy Hershberger is a joy, and Perry Bontrager is perfect for her but she can't see past her fixation on Maynard.
After a year of chasing after Maynard - inviting him for supper, baking treats for him, making sure she is anywhere he's going to be - Daisy Hershberger's parents have had enough. They know Daisy thinks she's "in love" and that Maynard loves her back, but shouldn't he show some interest? They devise a plan to send their daughter to help with her cousin Beth's wedding preparations. Never mind that the wedding is months away, and Beth and her parents are away on vacation, Daisy needs to go immediately.
Meeting Perry Bontrager upon her arrival, she realizes they have at least one thing in common: their mothers are eager to see them married to someone, anyone in Perry's case, and anyone but Maynard in Daisy's. As they work together to care for Perry's employee, Furman Eash, will they find they have even more in common than they thought?
I loved so many things about this story. First, I enjoyed reacquainting myself with the huge Bontrager clan! Fuller's Amish of Marigold series has been so fun to read. Second, Perry is such a great character. Were I Amish and a man, I would be him! I completely understood his need to get away from his large family's gatherings to find a spot of peace. I also loved that Daisy saw this, understood it, and encouraged him to pursue it. Third, I loved how Perry and Daisy connected over butterflies, the one thing he was most afraid for her to find out about him. Instead of thinking it a "childish hobby" like his last (and only) girlfriend had, Daisy is as fascinated as he is. Could she be "the one" and if she is, what should he do about Maynard?
Readers who love Amish fiction with a fun dose of humor will love the entire Amish of Marigold series, and in particular The Marriage Pact. I know I loved Perry and Daisy! I listened to this one on the NetGalley app, and the narrator was great. (I believe she has narrated all of the audio versions of this series, so she is well-acquainted with the Bontrager horde. She does a great job, especially with voicing Daisy!)
