I only have one word...WOW!

What a book...I was hooked from page one!
We are following Elise and she is searching for her missing brother Callum and what ensues on that journey is a thrilling ride!

You go back and forth between the past and present while trying to piece together everything going on. I was constantly trying to figure out the connections in this story and I never did! The ending and how this all wrapped up has my jaw on the FLOOR! I will be thinking about this one for a while. So So So GOOD!

I received this book for free in exchange for my honest review! Thank you Netgalley and Embla Books for this ARC! Loved it!!!

The Mistake opens with a scene involving Elise, Stephanie, and Callum. Stephanie offers Elise a deal but, what is it? you'll have to read this book to know!

This is one of those stories that you have to read without knowing much about to avoid spoiling the story. There's a lot of heavy stuff in this book, which comes with a trigger warning in the beginning.

I liked that this was quite "meaty" and explored the characters' personalities and reasons for being they were they were (although some things are inexcusable) The are some good twists, nothing is as it seems and no-one is as it seems! I really didn't see the twist, mostly because deep down I was rooting for that character. It was shocking and I gasped out loud!

The ending was good, like you know in the end it was the best possible outcome.

Elise made a great character. not only because she will stop at nothing to dig into the disappearance of her brother. but also the unveiling of what revolved around her own secrets and issues too.
there is danger round every corner. there is twists that have you gasping. and this is one thriller you will want to keep reading right until the end. i loved the excitement and tension of this book. nothing was as i first thought it might be and i loved having no idea of the authors thinking until he let us see it..

One dark secret will ruin everything . . . Elise used to be the great hope of her hometown. A promising young runner who'd make everyone proud at the national championships. That was before she messed everything up. After what happened, she's got no job, no girlfriend, no prospects. And the whole town hates her - almost as much as she hates herself. The only person who's never given up on her is her brother, Callum. But something weird is going on. He's missing. And the cops aren't even worried. Great read! This book was a great chilling thriller just like! It had suspense, murder, mystery, some crazy characters and some shocking twists! The story was very interesting! I highly recommend reading this book! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!

I had a few hours to spare today, which was lucky, as I'd have struggled to put this book down and get on with things.
It was a one sit read for me.
Action packed, and with a few surprises, it kept me entertained rightthrough to the end.
The insights into who Elise was and how she was treated fleshed out not just the story, but her motivation for looking so desperately for her brother.
Excellent read.

Jack Heath has conjured a compulsive thriller about disgraced ex-athlete Elise, who's kept searching for her missing brother, Callum, a schoolteacher in small-town Australia, even as the police and others presume he's fled after drugs were found in his house. Grasping for even the smallest of leads, Elise stumbles into something incredibly dark, which puts her life and others at risk.

Heath does an excellent job drawing listeners in with a tense, intriguing storyline that turns on itself several times. I was transported into the story and taken for a great ride, and found myself devouring the whole thing in a day, unable to stop. Recommended.
