Be Afraid is neither romantic nor suspenseful. There's also inconsistencies in this book when compared to the first book in the series. All of a sudden, KC has no kids? He was visiting his son in the first book. I can't stand reading books where authors forget what happened earlier in the series. I won't be sticking with this one.
WOW!!! This was a hard one to put down! Great read and one you won't regret! This for me was fast paced and has you on the edge of your seat!
(I received a free copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.)
When police rescue five-year-old Jenna Thompson from the dark closet where she's been held captive for days, they tell her she's a lucky girl. Compared to the rest of her family, it's true. But even with their killer dead of an overdose, Jenna is still trying to find peace twenty-five years later.
On leave from her forensic artist job, Jenna returns to Nashville, the city where she lost so much. Instead of closure, she finds a new horror. Detective Rick Morgan needs Jenna's expertise in identifying the skeletal remains of a young child. The case jogs hazy half-buried memories--and a nagging dread that Jenna's ordeal hasn't ended.
Now other women are dying. And as the links between these brutal killings and Jenna's past becomes clear, she knows this time, a madman will leave no survivors. . .
This is the second book in the Morgans of Nashville series. While both are probably able to be read on their own, the second book would certainly benefit from having read the first.
Although this book is probably being labelled as a "romantic suspense", I think a proper term for it would be "mystery/suspense with a touch of romance." It is a fast-paced novel that really drags the reader along for the ride. The mystery aspect is very well done - it kept me turning the pages (as all good mysteries should) and it was well thought out and concluded nicely.
The romance side was light-on, which I appreciated. Having said that, the relationship between Jenna and Rick felt a little forced - like, if you met them in real-life, you would take one of them aside and say "he/she isn't for you..."
Overall, a strong second novel in this series and I do look forward to more.

This was a really good follow up to the first book of the series. I thought that Jenna and Rick were both great characters and I enjoyed the rather complicated storyline. It was interesting to see the different threads merge together. I loved the Nashville setting!
