This is such a satisfying conclusion to a YA series I adore. The dialect and voicey narration elevates it above other historicals and brings the character of Scarlet to life. The plot is fun, characters lovable, romance wonderful—it's an all-around enjoyable read.
Lion Heart by A. C. Gaughen
Lion Heart is a stunning conclusion to the Scarlet trilogy! All loose ends are tied up, there's action and intrigue and everything I wanted in this final book. Scarlet is relentless, never giving up even though people think she has died. I've loved watching her character grow and mature throughout the trilogy. I loved the romance between Scarlet and Rob. So swoony and sweet and tender. A.C. Gaughen is such a great author!
This was such a fantastic series. I loved all the books and definitely recommend it for anyone that is a fan of retellings. The unique spin on the Robin Hood legend was perfect.
Anticlimactic and boring with not enough big stakes to top the previous installments. What even was the plot? *Nothing* happened [except that Rob and Scarlet got married (and finally got to have The Sex), there was a subplot of a lady almost being forced into a terrible marriage by her father that was entirely unnecessary, and Eleanor turned into a simpering, useless queen. LIKE CHRIST JUST FUCKING KILL JOHN AND GET RICHARD BACK, WHO CARES THAT HIS MOM THINKS HE'S WORTH SAVING?!?!?!!] This is so upsetting because I truly enjoyed the first book, even with all romantic drama!!! And the sequel just wasn't quite there, but it at least had a point to it. Ughhhh.
