I sit on the middle of this story neither loving nor hating it. I had expectations from the synopsis and the way it is described are not on point. This has a Jane Eyre vibe but not as Gothic and way more adult themes. This is definitely a historical romance and very light on the Gothic parts. Overall, I feel the ending was rushed and it didn't leave a great impression

Romance is normally not my kind of genre but I thought I'd dive in head first into this book anyways because why not? Gothic, steampunk! Maybe that'll dilute the romance a ton! Unfortunately not.

I did really love the spooky atmosphere and the plot that surrounds our main character Lucinda Stafford who is in need of a job and becomes a governess of two small children. The plot, while mostly predictable, was well developed and engaging to read.
