Note: I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated in any other fashion for the review and the opinions reflected below are entirely my own. Special thanks to the publisher and author for providing the copy.
When I was young, I used to read a lot of comic books, but as the years went by my reading habits changed and comics were left behind. I still have a huge interest not only in comics, but in graphic novels as well - and when I found out about this one, I knew I had to read it.
Unfortunately, Edward Scissorhands didn't work for me. I was hoping for a dark and eerie book, but that was not what I got. You can understand the difference if you check my blog, where I share a couple of the illustrations (link will be at the bottom of this review).
The illustration work was not bad - it just wasn't what I was expecting. I wanted something a little bit more sad. More somber.
The storyline wasn't the best, either. It seems like the author rewrote the original plot, with minor changes. It's still a monster hunt, nothing else. A creature that comes to life, misunderstood, lost. And then everything ends so suddenly, and all of a sudden, everything's fine. There's something wrong with this formula, from where I am standing.
So yes, I had higher expectations for this book. More charachter depth, a darker storyline, much more creepier. It feels like a retelling of the story we all know, and not a sequel. I did not hate the book, but I was thoroughly disappointed.
I believe there will be people who will enjoy this book, but it was not meant for me.
I did like this as a continuation of the movie but i wasn't the hugest fan of the art work. It wasn't for me as I found it a bit too stylised and it could have been made more appealing to more people.
Very interesting! Quite a bit different that what I was expecting would totally recommend!
