This was an interesting, quite surprising, mystery novel. I wouldn’t say it was a book that I couldn’t put down, but I will say that I kept finding myself returning to it again, and again throughout the day. It was quite thought-provoking. It’s sweet, funny, poignant, and my guess is that it would translate quite nicely into a major motion picture. I found the characters real and relatable, and I wanted to bring that dog home. The ending came a bit too quickly for me. I wanted this book to go on, but that did not affect my overall enjoyment.

I enjoyed this story so much, Set in Charleston South Carolina, it relates the often humorous story of a female attorney who was appointed to represent the dog in a vicious divorce. Each shaking, nope. Entertaining, yes.

Sally Baynard prides herself on being an attorney in Charleston, SC, but after divorcing a guy from a well known family who becomes a judge, she is often put into awkward situations - hence she becomes a guardian lawyer for a dog who's parents are going through a divorce.

First, I am a huge dog fan. I have three of my own, so a book where the dog is a central character and they don't die, sign me up! This book already had points before I even started reading it. BUT I really did love this book. I loved the concept of a dog being a valued item in a divorce and needing more context than dividing up houses and cars and such. It was so sweet to follow Sally and she tried to find the best solution for Sherman, the dog and I loved the way she went about "investigating."

This was a fun and sweet book that was perfect to curl up with in one day. It was short and sweet and I was excited to follow it up with the sequel, which I will review later today.

Definitely enjoyed this book. Had a really good storyline to it. It didn't bore me and it moved along so that you didn't want to put it down. Definitely would recommend.

I want to take Sherman home! This was a memorable little dog, one that I would love to have as my own. The lawyer was so funny, caught with needing to care for a dog and not really knowing how to fulfill such a ridiculous assignment. The dog's "parents" are divorcing and both want custody as though Sherman is a child.

There are a few mild curse words, and a mention of a couple being in bed together, but nothing more is shown. It was definitely refreshing to find an enjoyable, humorous story for the secular world that didn't make me feel dirty for having read it. I did recommend it to a couple of friends.

I received an ebook from NetGalley for review and was not required to leave a favorable review.
