I for some reason remember reading this but I guess I never posted a review. Will have to reread this and see what I think now.

It's a very interesting book! At first I was disappointed that we knew it was an alien right away, but the road trip element was cute. I can for sure see myself giving this to the kids.

Though I had been putting this book off for a long time, I finally got around to reading it, and I don't regret it one bit. For some reason, I just couldn't get through the first chapter through the dog's point of view, but once I did, oh man. I couldn't stop reading it. You guys know I love books about aliens, and this story is so cute and heart wrenching I enjoyed it so much.

Following a teen girl named Emma in first person, it shows her life as she spends most of her time beside her boyfriends death bed at his home, with his family, who isn't very appreciative of her. Though she gives all the time that she can manage to him, his mother thinks that she's stealing his last moments away from the rest of the family and wishes that she would just leave. Honestly though, I think that's a her problem. Why can't they all spend time together?

Anyways, that all changes one day when a small space ship crashes down to earth on their farm behind the barn. The consciousness of an alien who was supposed to be dead latches itself first onto Mack, the family dog, and then fixes itself into Lucas, the sick boy with terminal cancer, and a miracle happens. He's cured. Slowly getting better, his family and his doctors can't believe it, but something's changed. He's not Lucas anymore, and Emma seems to be the only one who realizes that.

Thus begins an epic journey to get Scout, the alien inhabiting Lucas's body, home for good. This book was really sweet and an easy read, and even action packed at times. I couldn't put it down, and I couldn't ask for more. Though it's not my new absolute favourite book, I really don't have any problems with it, and I'm glad I finally sat down and read it. The only question I have, is why did they bring up that thing about Emma's mom's boyfriend teaching Emma how to hotwire a car at the beginning of the book if they weren't going to use that little piece of information? Other than that though, everything was perfect.

If you love easy going teen romance turned scifi books, then this is for you. The cover is absolutely beautiful, and I really love it. The colours just work so nicely together, and everything encapsulates a certain scene in the book perfectly. I would love to have a copy for my bookshelf. Check it out if you get the chance!

Any sort of star-crossed lovers is an automatic must-read for me, and this one lived up to my standards! Normally spacey= things are much more difficult for me to follow along, but this wasn't bad because of how well the characters meshed with each other.

This was a cute, clean romance. Nothing special here, not an alien/sci-fi story that necessarily stands out. It was cute and was definitely a love story/romance type story. Best for younger readers.

If you like something quick, fun and easy this is the book for you.

Our main character Emma is convinced that her boyfriend Lucas will beat all the odds of his cancer and survive. And miraculously he does but with outside help. Eventually Emma catches on to this and then things go from there.

For me Emma was not a character I cared for the possessive overbearing aspects of her person through me off every time. I despise people like this so reading from her perspective as she did and said these types of things really pulled me out of the story and raised my blood pressure.

I liked the friendship aspect that I wasn't aware was going to be big motif. I mistakenly assumed romance would be a heavy feature but I was wrong. I like friendships more so I liked this aspect a ton.

This is an updated E.T. story that is described as a YA Fantasy/Sci-Fi. It is a cute, story with some Sci-Fi, romance and fantasy thrown in. Emma is in love with her boyfriend Lucas. Lucas is dying from Cancer. Emma will do anything to save Lucas, so she visits the town witch and gets a potion to cure him. As she is administering the potion, there there is a crash outside on Lucas' family farm. It seems that an alien spaceship has blown up and a pod has landed in their field. A tiny alien being hides out in the body of the family dog and that night, enters Lucas. After this, Lucas begins to feel better until he is miraculously cured. This is where the E.T. comparison comes in. Scout (the name they give the alien) just wants to go home. The government, wants to find whatever landed on earth. What follows is a hide & seek, chase, and problem solve to help Scout go home, and Lucas to be returned to control of his body.

This was a well-written, engaging story. It was well-paced and I easily finished this story in one day. The characters were well-developed and likeable. We really don't meet Lucas until the end of the story because he is in a coma at the beginning and then "Scout" takes over his body and that is the character that Emma is interacting with. The story is told from both Emma's and Scout's point of view. Emma is a daring girl, who has a strong determination to not to give up on her dying boyfriend. It seems that he is the only thing in her life at the time and she is devoted. Once he is cured, Emma knows that something is different and once again, is determined to figure our what is wrong with Lucas. Scout, is trying to survive. Once he has a host body, he needs to adjust to life on earth as he does not know if he will ever be rescued. I loved watching the relationship between Emma and Scout grow. Emma becomes more empathetic and open to what Scout needs and wants. She will do what she can to rescue both Scout and Lucas. The adventure in this book, stems from the government authorities trying to capture Scout. The cat and mouse chase scenes with the authorities are action scenes, but there is also some humor there. When Scout lets the oil go from the moonshiners truck, it is a bit like the Keystone Cops. The showdown that Scout and Emma are involved in to reunite him with his spaceship is exciting to read, and the author did a wonderful job describing those scenes.

Overall, the book is like an adventure trip taken with an alien in a human body across the state of Wisconsin. It is a fun story with some emotion, adventure, romance and humor. This was a light science fiction/fantasy story that could be enjoyed by both young and old adults.

This book was a perfect fit for my tastes. It grabbed my attention from the very beginning and held it throughout.

My rating for From a Distant Star falls between three and four stars. There were parts I really enjoyed and I found the characters very likable. The pace was excellent and I was able to finish the book in just a few sittings. My only complaint would be how the book wrapped up. ***SPOILER*** I thought it was turning into an intergalactic romance, but that didn't end up happening. I just felt the chemistry between Emma and Scout and assumed that was where the book was going. I was happy to see her get a happy ending with Lucas, but since he was "dormant" for the entire novel, I wasn't invested in their relationship. ***END OF SPOILER***
Karen Mcquestion is a great author and I highly recommend any of her books. My particular favorites include Easily Amused and Favorite. If you're a fan of sci-fi YA novels, then From a Distant Star is definitely worth checking out.

Though this was a YA book, I really enjoyed it. Basically Emma's boyfriend is Lucas, who is dying of cancer. Emma will do anything to save him, but then suddenly he suddenly wakes up, miraculously cured. However, Emma soon realises that the 'reborn' Lucas is not actually Lucas at all. Instead, he is an alien called Scout, who is looking for a way to call home. Emma ends up becoming involved in a race to get Scout home, and Lucas back.

I wasn't sure what to expect with this book. A book that revolves around a love story and an alien? Well I was very surprised with how much I enjoyed this book!

Emma's boyfriend Lucas has cancer and is dying. An alien, Scout, takes over his body after Emma makes a wish to bring Lucas back to life. A fun, cute, and quirky novel. Definitely worth reading.

Okay, no, this is a DNF. I already figured out what will happen and I don't want to waist time on a book that I know I won't enjoy. The 'alien's pov talks like we are idiots and the mother of the main guy is such a bitch.
I'm really sorry about it because the cover is super pretty and the story sounded good, similar to Starcrossed, which I loved, but it's clearly not similar. I'm so sad.

Who doesn't love a doomed romance?! This book was emotional and just really good! I would recommend it to my friends. Any book that has me tearing up is always a good book.

I think this book has one of the most stunning covers I have ever seen, so I would like to begin by congratulating the designer for coming up with such a beautiful cover. I do think, however, that the cover is slightly misleading. You look at it and you think this story’s going to be about a young couple, and it’s going to be romantic with a tinge of sci-fi in it. The boy and girl on the cover do have a relationship, but the book itself focuses more on friendship than romance. That isn’t a bad thing at all; I’m just pointing out that the cover may mislead some people.

I’m not a science fiction person. The sci-fi I do enjoy is usually centered around utopian or dystopian societies. Therefore, I’m unaware of how most YA sci-fis work. For me, this book was encompassing too much for it to fit in such a small book. There was so much going on- extraterrestrial life, government plots, action, a little bit of magic, some romance, family relationships. There was so much happening and the hardcover is 272 pages long. I don’t think it was enough.

This book had a lot of potential. The premise was interesting, and there was a lot of action and turns throughout that I wasn’t expecting. It was an eventful, fast-paced story, but it was just all over the place. It didn’t feel like a cohesive story for me.

I'm sorry, but I couldn't get into this book enough to give it a full review.
