I appreciate the opportunity to read this title, but unfortunately it didn’t quite capture my interest. While the premise was promising, I found it difficult to stay engaged. That said, I’m sure it will find its audience with readers who connect more strongly with the writing style or pacing.

I thought this was going to be more of a bodyguard romance, but it's more his job to be a bodyguard for others in this book. I still enjoyed it, but I felt a little misled by the title even though I read the summary. I did like the romance writer aspect and where that plotline went, as well as the plot regarding his mother's care.

Okay, this book took me entirely too long to read, but that was a ME problem and not an Amy Lea problem. But once I got out of my little funk, I had a blast reading it. It was a lot of fun knowing the settings in which she was talking about (since it takes place in Ottawa). It was a bit spicy for me, but that is okay. I think that is why I dropped it down a star... honestly just because I was going to suggest my mother in law to read it, but then I got to those parts, and I was like ABORT MISSION because that just makes me feel a little awkward. I will very much suggest my best friend to read it though (because that makes me feel less awkward).

Amy Lea, you did it again. You keep it up, you beautiful ray of sunshine you!

Thank you to Berkley, NetGalley, and Amy Lea for an advance copy of The Bodyguard Affair in exchange for an honest review. Oh hello fake dating trope, we meet again. My god- I absolutely fell in love with this book! As a newer romance lover, I absolutely loved reading Nolan and Andis story through the dual POVs. Not only was this a spicy read, it focused on topics that were very realistic (parent with Alzheimer’s, trusting in yourself, following your passions) which made it even more enjoyable for me. I cannot wait to read more of Amy Lea in the future- you can pick this one up for the romance lover in your life on December 2nd!

You're gonna love this!

The set-up here was fun and different for a romcom. This has all the tropes I love: fake dating, handsome bodyguard, forced proximity and slow burn romance. I really liked how the romance was developed between Andi and Nolan. From their awkward meet-cute to their reconnection years later, the romance was built up nicely. It was a wonderfully executed slow burn that had a strong foundation of friendship. I liked their small swoony moments as well as the steamy ones. There was a good balance of both. Nolan is also a dreamy MMC so that certainly swayed me too haha. I also loved that these two showed up for each other when emotions were high. It just really sold the romance for me. I found the romance here to be delightful.

I enjoyed both characters but I think I would have liked a little more from Andi's character. Her ex-best friend was in need of a verbal comeuppance and I wish that had happened. I understand Andi took the more mature high road but I think it would have been satisfying and helped with her character development. But that's just me.

I did find it fun that we got to see some of Andi's writing, especially the steamy scenes. They were actually quite sexy! I was pleasantly surprised. This book was also hysterical. The opening scene with their awkward as heck meet-cute?! I could not stop laughing.

Overall, I really enjoyed this one! It's cute, fun, sexy and full of heart. I easily devoured this in a sitting. Cannot wait for another one from Lea!

Andi Ziegler is on the cusp of a major change. She's just broken up with her partner, her internship ended, and she's about to begin work as a PA to the prime minister's wife. Then her ex and best friend announce they're together. In a fit of whimsy, she takes home a man from the bar, and the next morning, he's gone without a trace.

Fast forward 3 years. Andi is a secret romance writer on top of her PA job, though she's barely written since starting. Due to being in the wrong place at the wrong time, rumors of an affair between Andi and the PM swirl on top of his already strained marriage with his wife. Enter the latest addition to his protection detail: the very man Andi brought home 3 years ago.

I HATE miscommunication or lack of communication, so the ending grated on me a bit, but other than that, it was enjoyable.

I am such a body guard romance Stan. So this was automatically going to be a winner for me. Then add in fake dating and yes yes yes. It was a cute fun read with a good level of spice. Nolan as so swoony and I loved Andi. And the Nolan and his mom story line was just beautifully written.

Last night was Monday Night Football, which meant my husband had a death grip on the TV remote. But honestly? I didn’t care one bit, because I had something far better in my hands: a fresh new copy of The Bodyguard Affair by Amy Lea. When I say I squealed with delight opening that approval email, I mean full on, can’t-sit-still, “drop everything and read” squealing.

Andi and Nolan completely swept me away.

Andi, juggling her double life as both the ultra-competent assistant to the Prime Minister’s wife and a secret romance novelist, had me hooked from the first page. And Nolan? Let’s just say if Amy Lea was trying to create a broody, loyal, quietly vulnerable dreamboat of a hero… mission accomplished. The fact that these two had history (that delicious, one-night-stand-gone-wrong kind of history) made their forced proximity and fake dating shenanigans all the more irresistible.

What I loved most was how Amy Lea layered the romance with heart. The scandal, the sharp banter, the “oh no, we can’t possibly fall for each other” tension, it all builds so seamlessly into moments that are tender, real, and genuinely moving. Nolan’s devotion to his family, Andi’s struggle to balance duty with desire, and the way they both stumble toward trust had me swooning one minute and clutching my chest the next.

This romcom isn’t just funny (though I laughed plenty), it’s smart, sexy, and full of emotional depth. The Bodyguard Affair reminded me exactly why I love this genre: it’s an escape, yes, but also a reminder of how love sneaks up on you when you least expect it.

So, thank you Monday Night Football for the background noise, and thank you Amy Lea for giving me a book that made me giddy, dreamy, and totally invested. If you need me, I’ll be over here daydreaming about a grumpy Canadian bodyguard who accidentally stole my heart.

Big thank you to Berkley, Amy Lea and Netgalley <3

So excited to read an Amy Lea again!

This was so fun! I loved how the bodyguard trope was developed in this book. We love a supportive hero and I don’t think you’ll fine one more supportive than Nolan. I loved their meet cute from start to finish, and their story was so sweet!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC. I’ve read Amy Lea before and really enjoyed her books and this one is a sheer delight. Great characters and super fun setting in Canadian politics. I also loved that there wasn’t the dreaded 4th act break up.

Sweet, cute, and incredibly Canadian! I have read one other book by Amy Lea and I think I liked this one more, there were a lot of things I found either relatable or quite sweet and it made me want to keep picking up my kindle to read.

The Bodyguard Affair follows Andi, a covert romance author that works as a PA for the wife of the Prime Minister. When it comes out that she might be the author of the *steamy* romance novel featuring a Prime Minister, rumours float around that she is a mistress and has betrayed her boss. Andi denies it (she feels a lot of shame around being a romance author due to her friends and mother) and to help fight the rumours she enlists her almost-one-night stand to be her fake boyfriend. Convenient that he has just showed up and is the Prime Minister's bodyguard.

After many fake dating scenes, awkward "we have no chemistry" kisses and "we should just be friends" moments, the two sort themselves out and realize they are in love. I was happily along for the ride until about the last 20% when everything started to feel quite therapy-ish. I am very pro therapy, however, it felt like these conversations weren't always organic. It certainly has a bit of a neat, tidy bow ending.

DNF. I just couldn’t get into this one. The main characters, Andi and Nolan, didn’t do it for me. Their relationship felt kind of cringey, and I just wasn’t feeling the spark I was hoping for. The premise really intrigued me, but the execution didn’t land. I didn’t fully connect with Andi’s narration, and overall, I just didn’t feel invested in either character. I’m bummed I didn’t enjoy this one because I absolutely adored Woke Up Like This. Maybe I just vibe more with the author's YA work. Although this book wasn't for me, I can see its appeal for other readers. Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley for the ARC.

A lot that was word for word like any other room com, but it was a cute read with good characters, and every so often there was brilliant writing belonging in a much deeper book. ❤️

I didn't love this one, which is sad because I usually love Amy Lea! I didn't think the writing voice was sophisticated enough - the overdone awkwardness of the FMC, the unnaturally swoony behavior of the MMC who barely knows her. The spark from their initial meeting didn't land for me, and the way the fake dating scheme evolved just felt a little clunky. Nothing outwardly bad (the book was definitely hitting all the right plot points at the right pacing) but it just doesn't have that "it" factor, you know? Not like she usually does.

Not mad I read it but it didn't scratch the itch I wanted it to!

This was another amazing one from Amy Lea. She is always so clever and funny and this book is no different. The plot picks up quickly and it is completely absorbing. A gripping read, romantic and fun. And set in Canada!

I love Amy Lea’s books so I was excited when I saw she was coming out with more! This was a cute romance that touched on some more serious themes, It was a solid romance, I don’t think it was doing anything new but I think it was good and will appeal to a lot of people. Thank you Berkley and NetGalley for this ARC!

This book starts off with one of the most awkward meet cutes. Plus the apartment shenanigans later had me cackling. I just couldn’t believe how strong this book starts off and I was excited to see where it went. But sadly the rest of the book didn’t quite match up to the beginning. Now don’t get me wrong I overall enjoyed the story but I definitely think something’s could’ve been tweaked.

Firstly big Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing for an advance reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Like I mentioned this book starts out really strong with an awkward bathroom encounter and an even more interesting one night stand. Flash forward a few years and our main characters reunite because they are both working for the prime minister. Our FMC gets accused of having an affair with the prime minister because of a book she wrote. Our FMC and MMC decide to fake date to get the press off the prime minister’s back. I mean come on the fake dating trope it’s right up my alley.

However, like I mentioned the execution just wasn’t quite there. I mean the whole point was for them to be seen in public dating by the press, but I feel like the couple was hardly out and about. They were always spending time at their respective homes or with friends in a private setting. Now again don’t get me wrong I still enjoyed it I thought Andi and Nolan were cute, sweet couple. But this book was more about working through their childhood trauma and abandonment issues. Again nothing wrong with that I just wish we got to see them in more of the political appearance setting.

Overall, this isn’t my favorite by Amy but I’d still read anything she writes. And I’d definitely recommend this book.

What a green flag of a man -- Nolan is so supportive and encouraging, overall an amazing romance hero. I loved Andi, our heroine, as well. I really like Amy Lea's writing, with her humor and relatable characters; The Bodyguard Affair is no exception!

Thanks to the publisher for providing me a digital review copy via NetGalley.

I loooooooooove love love a second chance after a one off hook up!!

This is great for readers of Abby Jimenez and Katherine center - lots of romance and chemistry with equal parts emotional punch. You won’t be able to put it down ❤️

A super fun romp through how hiding your true identities and personal struggles lead to circumstances of connection even in non-traditional settings. Andi and Nolan scratch all the itches with tropes of one night stand, fake dating, workplace romance, UK politics…sure to be a hit with a lot of people given the numerous opportunities for swoon.
