This book was sexy and fun. I would re-read it for sure and would read something else by this author.
This is a sweet friends to lovers read. Lyla is a shy nerdy girl that gets help from a guy she meant in class. As he helps her achieve her goals they fall in love. Cute story.
Review is at Amazon, iBooks, kobo, Barnes and Noble, goodreads.
Thank you to Entangled Publishing for the opportunity to review this second look title.
This is the first book in Cindi Madsen’s Taking Shots series, so it’s obviously a stand-alone title. I love pretty much everything else she’s written, and she’s one of my automatic 1-click authors for a reason. She writes books with a bit of snark and humor sprinkled in with the romance, all while tackling some of today’s most significant issues within the pages. It’s a friend-to-lovers sports rom-com with a lot of growth for the main characters. It’s a quick read, but while it’s quirky and funny a good bit of the time (the corny chemistry jokes are a favorite of mine), there’s some definite angst thrown in to give it more depth. I balked a little over Lyla’s decision to change how she dressed to gain more attention, but when I thought about it, that young adult age is all about trying new things and figuring out who you are as an adult. Her metamorphosis comes full circle as she eventually finds where she’s comfortable between her old and new self. By the end of the book, my ruffled feathers were settled in that regard. While Lyla had some growing to do, Beck had the biggest emotional obstacles to overcome. Of course, they find their HEA, but it’s not without some heartache before they get there.
I am usually not one who will read about sports but when it was combined with love and well written I do.
Getting Lucky Number Seven at first glance I thought oh she is doing 7guys but it turns into a real love story. I will definitely like to read this one again.
Three and a half stars.
It wasn't crazy awesome, but it was still an enjoyable, entertaining read.
I'm a chemistry student and a cat person myself, so I had a lot in common with Lyla. And Beck was so darn sweet! They were a really fun couple!
Totally recommended for people looking for a light, fun book.
This book is the typical story of friends becoming lovers. It's a cool story but, I might say it doesn't catch my attention that much.
I loved this friends to lovers romance! It's warm, it's funny, it's sweet, and sexy. The characters are great and there is major chemistry between nerdy Lyla and hockey player Beck. The writing is great too. Loved Anatomy of a Player also and can't wait to read the rest of the series. 4.5 stars.
Received in exchange for a honest review.
I so felt for Beck at the end. He had so much pressure on him to live up to expectations that he feels squeezed. He finds out some revelations that have him feel guilt, anger, disappointment and fear. He runs from love because of all he learns and his anger only to realize in the end he can’t go without Lyla in his day. His way to win her back was fun and adorable.
Beck was great to me. He saw beyond the outside of Lyla and really understood her. He didn’t make her feel insecure but built her up and was there for her. When she instituted her list he supported her and helped her. It was the makeover that had Beck really notice a different side of Lyla. You can tell he was always attracted to her but he felt their friendship meant more and moved on. He also knew what his life was really like and didn’t want her to be hurt. He was escaping reality at college and trying to find himself and do what he loves before his future took over and he had to give into the pressure and all the expectations. He was a great guy a bit of a player at first but you can tell that he cared for and truly was there for Lyla no matter what. I loved how he saw her for her and not what was on the outside.
Lyla was the sweet girl who you just smile at. She marched to her own drum and was okay with that. Until her boyfriend dumps her and she feels she needs a change. It is Beck who she turns to and who is there for her throughout. She leans so much on him that it isn’t hard to see them going beyond friendship. The story is lighthearted and fun as we see Lyla let loose and fall for her bestie and he her. We see her help Beck let his guard down and let her in. It is wonderful at his parents house how she helps him through that rough time. How she bonds with his sister and just how real she is. She doesn’t hide herself and that is refreshing to see.
the story is endearing and sweet. Watching Beck find love and struggle with everything and yet see Lyla is who he needs and wants in his life is such a adorable read. I loved watching him grow and realize where he belongs, who he loves and what love is. I loved seeing him finally figure things out and see that Lyla in his life makes everything better.
When Lyla overhears one of her roommates boyfriends, friend call her the "fugly" one, she sets out on a mission to make changes in her life. It's her first year of college and she and her long time boyfriend have mutually agreed that the long distance thing won't work.
Lila wants to break out of her shell, try new things. She devises a list of things to try, which include changing her hair, how she dresses, kissing a stranger, and having mind blowing sex. She enlists the help of her college bestie, Beck, who also happens to be the captain of the hockey team.
The unlikely friends became close after being paired together in a chemistry class. Beck likes to look after Lyla and Lyla knows that the man-whore that Beck is, would never be interested in her.
But things change as Lyla starts to draw attention from other men. Beck doesn't believe in love and commitment, based on his parents lie of a marriage. But things with Lyla make him believe that what happened with his parents may not be what happens for him.
Cute and sweet. I love sport romances and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.
Thank you to Entangled: Embrace and Netgalley for a copy of the eARC in exchange for a fair review.
Lyla has hit a rough patch, it has been a few months since her boyfriend broke up with her, and her roommates have decided to set her her but when she overhears him call her boring and fugly, Lyla gets upset and heads to her best friend Beck's place to come with a plan. Beck is in the middle of sealing the deal when Lyla arrives, but he puts it all aside to help her out.
Lyla makes plans to change her look and comes up with a list, and with Beck's help she begins to change things. At the end of the first week she has knocked out 3 of the six things on her list. She decides to add a number seven. As she is tackling the second half of her list, Beck stumbles across her new list. Soon all he can thinking about is number seven. Mind blowing sex... and he wonders if he can help Lyla knock that off her list.
As things progress between Lyla and Beck suddenly they are in strange territory. Beck is always upfront about not wanting relationships and Lyla is trying to not go beyond that, but he isn't helping when he holds her hand or invites her to come home with him on spring break. Can she get to him to admit how he feels? Or will this all end horribly?
I read another book in this series and when I saw that Entangled was offering a second look at the first book I jumped at it. I find that I still seriously love hockey romances! I don't often read romance anymore, but I do read it occasionally. I love Lyla she is a great person and I love how she tackles the list and it isn't a ridiculous list either. Baby steps so to speak to break her out of her shell.
I also seriously adore friends to lover romances. It hits me in all the feels and it always feels so genuine and real. Beck is smoking hot and despite his causal dalliances he actually has legit reasons he acts like that and it makes him even more adorable. I recommend this series if you are looking for a new romance to break up your regular reading material.
