The Warlord and the Nightingale by Jeannie Lin ★★★
(based on The Nightingale)

A lovely story set in feudal Japan. Told with the style and imagery of that era which distances the reader a bit from the story and characters, but it's beautiful to read. My only complaint is the ending, where the action takes place "off camera" and the vague wrap up is rather unsatisfying.

A Happily Ever After of Her Own by Nadia Lee ★★
(based on Beauty and the Beast - sort of)

The premise was cute (regular girl dropped into fairy tales wreaks havoc) but the story was choppy. I had a hard time believing our heroine hadn't already explored all the fairy tales, having had the ability most her life, and that being the case why she hadn't been caught before (or at the very least figured out Beast was awesome and Prince Charming was not).

Kiss that Frog by Cate Rowan ★★★
(based on The Frog Prince)

The heroine was cute but I had a hard time believing that she was willing to give it a big smooch within hours of expressing complete revulsion to the creature. A big plot hole in the Prince's backstory made me side eye, but given the restrictions of a short story I gave it a pass.

Runespell by Sela Carsen ★★★★
(based on East of the Sun and West of the Moon)

I really enjoyed this one. So much so, that I've looked into Carsen's other books and will be trying one of them as well—the highest praise for a short story.

After the Stroke of Midnight by Jennifer Lewis ★★
(based on Cinderella)

I'm not a fan of the billionaire trope, and I just didn't believe the couple's connection went beyond lust. It seemed to drag on and on.

Braided Silk by Ella Drake ★★★
(based on Rapunzel)

I appreciated the unique spin on Rapunzel's hair and thought the world building was interesting.

Loving a Fairy Godmother by Danielle Monsch ★★★★★
(based on Cinderella)

This story is worth the price of the entire collection. Lovely, inventive little romance retelling that left me grinning and following Monsch on social media. Will definitely be picking up one of her full length works in the future!

It's well written, but not really my genre. I just couldn't get past the names of the characters A little too far fetched for my liking.

Fairy tales with a spin or two! Very delightful read, some modernized, added romance and yet still retain that charming quality of the stories we all know and love.

This was a cute collection of fairy tale stories with modern flair. I won’t go into detail about each individual story because they have been well covered in other reviews. My favourites were “A Happily Ever After of Her Own” by Nadia Lee. A sweet twist on the Beauty and the Beast Story; and “Loving a Fairy God Mother” by Danielle Monsch because who hasn’t wondered just what the God Mothers get up to when they are not saving the princesses!

This boxset is routinely on special and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend you grab a copy next time. The majority of the stories are short enough that it won’t take a huge commitment to read one, but long enough that you can enjoy the characters and their world. It’s a light, sometimes funny, always romantic, read and pure escapism.

This book had eleven different stories based on fairytales some traditional and some I had never heard of. All 11 stories were very interesting. One of my favorites was Loving a fairy godmother. It was very light hearted and funny. Some of the tales were dark but still had happy endings. All in all this was a good read.

I really can' t give a fair review on this book as I never had a chance to finish it. Every time I would try to read it , it was messed up on my kindle. I have no problem with other books, just this one.

I made my way through this collection of fairytales that have been reinterpreted for contemporary times. I found them a mixed bag to be honest. Some I liked well enough, others not so much, because they failed to engage my interest. Nevertheless, I am very glad to have read them and I think others might really like them..

I loved these stories!! They were perfect short stories! I loved some more than others but overall they were worth the long read! What I loved most about them as they were done right! Even though it might have seemed like insta-love the story was believable and well written!

This is an enjoyable collection of short stories. Some are better than others with the authors able to condense their work admirably. While all of the stories are well written several authors struggled with the parameter of short stories, namely pacing, several stories finished long before a good ending could be developed. Overall I would recommend it. I have rated each story individually but my overall rating for the collection is 3 stars.

A clockwork puppeteer Hanzo is challenged to make an elaborate karakuri for Lord Mizunaga. He is bewitched by the beautiful courtesan Lady Yura who must sing her master,Lord Mizunaga, to sleep or face severe consequences.
Set in feudal Japan with a steampunk twist this is an interesting take on The Nightingale fairytale. Lady Yura is more than she appears and this is thrown in at the end. While this may be further explored in the author’s Gunpowder Chronicles, I was left feeling a little confused by the ending.

A Happily Ever After of Her Own by Nadia Lee
My Rating 4 stars

Melinda Lightfoot has the ability to transport herself into the land of fairy tales. While watching the story of Beauty and the Beast unfold she is captured by the porcupine police and accused of being a fairytale killer. The evil witch has captured Beauty and taken her to Melinda’s world. The Beast will not get his happy ending until Beauty is returned. Melinda is charged with returning Beauty and the Evil Witch to Fairytale land with the aid of Beast.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. While short in length the story does not feel rushed in any way. This is a great take on my favorite fairytale.

Kiss That Frog by Cate Rowan
My Rating 2.5 stars

A retelling of the Princess & the frog, this story takes place in modern Los Angelus. Centuries ago Prince Alexander was cursed for not marrying the witch’s daughter. Fast forward to present day and artist Sophie is tasked with babysitting her niece’s pet frog, Toad. Sophie finds comfort in talking to the frog and taking inspiration from the story this is based on she kisses Toad and the curse is broken.
This story started off well. The characters are likable and well thought out. The story ends pretty soon after the curse is broken. It felt rushed and didn’t mesh with the rest of the well written story.

Runespell by Sela Carsen
My rating: 3 stars

This is based on East of the Sun/West of the Moon, a fairytale I am unfamiliar with. Tyr has been cursed by an evil troll to turn into a bear at sunset every night. He has been stuck this way for a thousand years, barely interacting with the outside world, content to remain hidden in his mountain cave. One night he witnesses a car running another car off the road and goes to investigate. Here he finds an unconcious Mai and brings her back to his cave to save her. Mai works with antiquities and has a special interest in Norse mythology.

This story moved at an excellent pace. it did not feel rushed and the story was well tought out.

This was a modern-day Cinderella retelling. I could rehash the story but it was just boring. Essentially Sandy won a date with the boss, they have a great time and Sandy runs away. Rinse and repeat way too many times and finally Sandy opens up and its happily ever after.

Braided Silk by Ella Drake
My rating: 2 stars

A futuristic retelling of Rapunzel, set in a world where some people are bio engineered to further science and a treated like lab rats. They are viewed as less than human and very disposable. This story had an excellent premise but the characters are really unlikable. I just couldn’t find anything to connect with.

Loving a Fairy Godmother by Danielle Monsch
My rating: 5 stars

What happens when a fairy godfather enters the realm of fairy godmothers?
I loved this novella. It is definitely my favorite in the series. This is not an insta-love story. there is a time jump early in the story and we revisit the two leads three decades after their first meeting. this story developed at a fantastic pace. I didn’t feel like I was reading a novella. It read like a full length novel, plenty of time for the story to develop and grow.

Love After Midnight by Dee Carney
My rating: 2.5 stars

Apparently this is a retelling of Cinderella. In my opinion while it had elements of Cinderella it is not a true retelling. Elle works for a design company initially as an intern then as a senior executive ( I assume. we never get a job title exactly.) She is briefly tormented by her new boss and her two assistants. (stepmother & step sisters) At a staff party she meets a mysterious man who has long admired Elle. Things quickly get steamy but before Elle can get his name he leaves. They reconnect end of story.

If this story continued on, it would be deserving of a higher rating. It ends abruptly and the author herself says on the two leads meeting they fell in like. Not love, like. The story is not developed beyond that. If the book was full length and had a proper ending it would definitely be a good story, currently its just a waste of time.

Firebird Sweet by Elise Logan

Ivan Frostbreather is on a quest to capture the firebird who has been stealing golden apples from his father’s garden. Vasalisa is being held and tortured by the Deathless, unbeknownst to him she can dream walk and the firebird has been helping her to heal by bringing her the apples. Ivan must complete his quest to capture the firebird, save Vasalisa with the help of a talking wolf, a terrifying witch and a magical horse. Oh and there’s a prophecy that puts him right in the middle of a struggle for the very existence of the fae.

This is an interesting story, a bit gruesome for my taste but well written and the characters are well-developed.

What Big Teeth You Have by Jennifer Blackstream

This book is a continuation of Jennifer Blackstream’s Blood Prince series. The characters in this story appear in One Bite. Kirill is seeking to form a political alliance with a demoness. Turning down the demoness’ sexual overtures he must deliver a basket of goods to her grandmother and defeat the wolf if he wishes to gain her allegiance. Despite her husband’s concerns for her safety, Irina has no intention of letting him go off alone on a demoness’ quest.

This was an interesting take on the classic red riding hood. I enjoyed it and will take a look at the series.

Snow’s Salvation by Cate Dean
My Rating: 3.5 stars

Snow the rightful heir to the throne is fleeing from the Queen who wants her dead. Closely followed by the Huntsman she stumbles upon seven thieves. Will they aid her in her quest to reclaim her throne or hand her over to the Queen.
I enjoyed this take on Snow-White. the heroine takes steps to save herself and is not dependent on the hero to save her. The identity of the secret assassin was also a surprising twist.

Interesting twists on the classic fairy tales. I really enjoyed some of the stories and simply liked others.

This is a good collection of stories...I can't even say they're short stories because they really aren't short...based on fairy tales we know so well. To be enjoyed in small doses. You can't read through the whole book in one sitting, it doesn't seem fair to the stories.

My favorite is the firebird story, Firebird Sweet by Elise Logan, because it felt like a true fairy tale, where the hero had to earn his way to the heroine, who was not without her own trials. Others like Loving a Fairy Godmother feels like a rehash other fairy godmothers stories but it surprised me with it's take on Cinderella.

AN interesting collection to have in your library.

This is a very interesting variety of stories! I love fairy tales and it is always wonderful to see a new take on an old tale.

This collection of fairy tale retellings is an enjoyable read for any romance fairy tale fan.

This box set was a collection of 11 fairy tale-like stories. The majority were sweet romance. Two were on the steamy side and one was a little too violent for my taste. Overall, they were very good stories. I enjoyed reading all of them.

While the idea was nice, it was hard to get into the different books. Each author had different writing styles, which is good for them, but it was hard to get through the books when I didn't like said style. It was a nice one time read but I most likely wouldn't read it again.

This is a perfect rainy day, snuggled with a blanket kind of read. I might who wouldn't want a gift box full of fairy tail inspired romances. This is the perfect box set to give you a feel good. The romance is melt able and the men are swoon worthy.

I truly enjoy remakes of fairy tales and this book is no different.

These 11 fairy tale inspired romances had me captivated from the start of the first one, I was amaze by the creative mix of these fantasy romances, they are really interesting and engaging. They are all different in style and contents which lends variety and spice to the collection, these talented and best selling authors really can mix it up good. I enjoyed the variety of the authors and their stories it’s a very riveting and captivating box set.
