Thank you for NetGalley and atria books for an advanced copy of this book.
This is a story of 3 sisters and their summer vacations in cape cod.
This book was ok but had a lot going on which caused you to not get fully invested in something. It was a quick read.
The Herington family returns annually to Cape Cod to vacation each summer at the family home. This year, each sister is bringing personal baggage that eventually erupts, upending their own and each others' lives. Maggie, the oldest, tries to create a perfect vacation for all, but is consumed with worry about her sister and parents, and feels like life is passing by her too quickly. She is waiting for the right moment to broach the subject of a new baby to her police detective husband. Jessie, an overworked school principal, must finally confront the distance between herself and her husband, and Virginia is dealing with dissatisfaction with her job and health issues that are becoming too big to ignore. In addition to the secrets they are hiding from each other, their divorced parents are each visiting at the same time, and it quickly becomes apparent her father's mental facilities are not what they once were, and their mother insists on bringing her current boyfriend.
Wendy Francis delivers a good beach read that deals with a "normal" family, and shows the everyday problems of which each of us is susceptible, and that the support system of a family can help you through the bad times. This book is a good readers advisory recommendation for fans of Erin Hilderbrand and Mary Kay Andrews.
Really enjoyable read. Good characters and a Good story. Well worth a read. Think others will. Enjoy
Pleasant summer read about the meaning of a family.
Summer meetings at the Cape Cod summer house are the best part of the year for the Heringtons. Herington sisters may have adult life of their own, but they love to meet there with their families and let the hardships slide into the blue water and bonfire. But this summer might be different - one of the most exciting, but also most heart-wrenching ones.
I enjoyed this novel - light, but not fluff read, and its take on what family is. Family, one of the most difficult bonds in our life, but also one of the most reassuring.
Take Heringtons - Maggie, the oldest (of the twins, but still) is the born caretaker. She can go to lengths to meet your needs - but what about the stress related to that? And there is her secret dream, too. Jess, the middle one, is facing a crisis in her own marriage. And youngest Virgie just might meet a boy of her dreams - and face a crisis of her own.
And yes, their parents are quite freshly divorced and their mother is coming there in the timeslot reserved for their dad - and with her beau (called Gio, at that). And Arthur, their father, is not always behaving like himself...
But the Herington sisters are there for each other. And it is their lovely sister bond that can make everything more bearable.
Read this with a glass of a nice drink - and then call your parents!
