Extremely well written: Great action, good character building & fab steampunk gadgets but it does sadly have second book syndrome. It did build up my expectations for the next book and I shall be reading it very soon.
Book two in this trilogy was just as thrilling and exciting and action-packed as book one was. The trio of Simon, Kate, Penny and Malcolm continue trying to save the world of Victorian London from some extremely nasty monsters . . . and evil gods . . . and, well, just imagine every evil creature you can think of, and they probably make an appearance.
What I especially love about this series is that the women are every bit as kick-ass and smart as the men, and they more than hold their own in the fight against the monsters. Even girl-werewolf Charlotte gets plenty of opportunity to flex her muscles [literally!] in this book.
The plot is perfect for this genre and has everything a reader could want, including the tongue-in-cheek humour that keeps the book from being too serious, even as the drama ratchets up as we hurtle toward the climactic ending.
This book and the series are perfect for fans of action/monster/paranormal stories. I love everything about it and look forward to reading the final book in the trilogy to wrap things up.
