I'm not 100% sure how I ended up with a copy of this as an ebook from the publisher, but I'm glad I did because I don't know that I would have picked it up naturally on my own (especially with that awful original cover). There were some ways that all of the coincidences in the book felt a bit implausible, but I still really liked the way massive chains of events unfolded from the minor choices the characters made. I loved how Emily St. John Mandel slowly teased out the reveals throughout the book [(isn't there something so heartbreaking about stories of people basing their decisions on misconceptions? How often does that happen in real life?) (hide spoiler)], and I loved that she told a very noir story in a way that felt really fresh.
