I love everything that Fredrik Backman writes and this was no exception! I LOVE this eccentric characters, his dry wit, and his heart-warming storytelling. It's one of those pick-me-up books that will instantly boost your mood and make you fall in love with books and reading again!

I just don't think I concentrated enough to get all of the meaning out of this book. It was good, but to me, it wasn't near as good as A Man Called Ove!

I experienced an emotional roller coaster while reading this story and I couldn’t put it down. Brilliant!
Many thanks to Atria Books and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

Ugh again another review that is not on here but I posted my review on Goodreads back in 2015
I gave it 3 stars

"Thanks for netgalley for this opportunity to read this book.
Pros-Nice relationship with child and grandmother and the almost fairy tale like story and legacy of love.
Cons-I just had a hard time believing this kid was 7 going on 8 when way more mature or wiser than any 7 year old I know. The kid should have been 10 or 11!"

I thoroughly enjoyed My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry for many reasons. Fredrik Backman shows the love and close relationship between the grandmother and 10-year old Elsa. Elsa is small, bullied, and likely a little odd and has no friends among her schoolmates. Instead, her family and neighbors make up her world.
Elsa's grandmother had been involved in emergency rescues throughout the world, but retired from her job when her granddaughter was born. Elsa and her grandmother spent much of their time together while Elsa's mother was often very busy at work.
Elsa and her grandmother have a commitment to stories and communicate in their own private language, discuss an imaginary world and put great stock in stories and adventures. Her grandmother is the one person that Elsa knows is always on her side -- sometimes even when she knows she's unfair to other people. Reading about their relationship, I believe that you need at least one person to be like this and with that kind of love, you can accomplish so much.
Though the book holds many other secrets and stories, this love between the grandmother and grandchild is what makes this book stand out to me.

I love Backman and I always appreciate the chance to read him before the book comes out because I always know I'll want to buy the finished book no matter what.

I absolutely loved A Man Called Ove, so I was wary about this book being as good just because it usually doesn't work that way. Writers don't always live up to their first works that you fall in love with. I'm so happy I was wrong in this case. Backman creates lovable, quirky characters that the reader can't help falling in love with: Little Elsa, who loves Harry Potter, and believes that her Granny is a superhero; Granny, who creates a magical world for her granddaughter to visit; Britt-Marie, the jilted nag; and even Mom and Dad, George and Halfie; the Monster, the wurse, The drunk. They all become so much more than Elsa has first imagined them to be, just like Granny herself. Elsa learns that no one is completely a shit, and so do we. Absolutely loved this book, and can't wait to read more Backman!

Grandma is a character and when she dies, she leaves instructions for her 8-year-old granddaughter to deliver letters to all the people Grandma has offended. One page you’re laughing, the next page you’re crying. This has more emotion and depth than _A Man Called Ove_. It’s a book filed with interesting characters.

I enjoyed this book and loved Fredrik Backman’s writing! This isn’t my favorite of his books but as always I fell in love with the characters and writing!

After reading His book A Man Called Ove and enjoying the writers style I decided to read this book. Elsie is 7 years old and a bit different, her best and only friend is her 77 yr old salty grandmother..Her grandmother tells Elsie stories about a land we’re people aren’t normal and don’t care to be, The book is a journey between the grandmother and Elsie. Not as good as A Man called Ove a real thinking book.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I love the characters, the setting, the plot! The Dewey Decimal Dames, my wonderful book club, selected this book and our discussion was wonderful! A percfect story told through a childs point of view, dealing with disasters, tragedy, war, grief, loss, and starting over. This book is filled with great quotes and interesting fairytales.
A must read for anyone who likes to be challenged to find the common thread and pull, unraveling the real story.
Thank you NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to review this wonderful book for my honest opinion.

Mr. Backman does it again. I have had the pleasure of reading all of his books released in the US and each one gets better and better.

I have just discovered Fredrik Backman and was loving his books. I was stunned to see that My Grandmother Asked Me To Tell You She's Sorry was a NetGalley from ages ago. I LOVED this book. I have now read all of Backman's books. I especially liked this book because of the little girl and her grandmother. It is also the book before another one of his (Britt-Marie Was Here) which I read out of order but was still fun to see the back story of Britt-Marie. Am anxiously awaiting his new book this summer.

I really liked this book, but after one chapter I almost stopped reading it. It took me awhile to figure out that much of the story is allegory. Once I understood that, I applauded the book for its unique way of unfolding a story. I have recommended this to several people, but always with the caveat to "Give it time.".
