The book's premise could've lead to something interesting but in my opinion it didn't quite deliver.
Dani and Rand are undeniable attracted to each other but the reader has no chance of getting to know them as a couple, real or not, since most of the time they were together they just have sex and that's it. One of the few thing they have in common is their desire to one-up the other and it didn't make a lot of sense after a bit.

RISK IT - Jennifer Chance

#4 in the Rule Breakers series

HOT! - 3.5 stars

Plot - 3 stars - Dani is a self-assured and successful con artist and thief. When she cons a billionaire into buying one of her friend Kate's paintings for triple its value, he becomes intrigued. So now Rand has an agenda involving her. They immediately become involved in a "deal," but their sexual chemistry keeps getting hotter despite themselves.

Writing - 3.5 stars - I was caught up in the story from the first page. Chance has a way of creating a group of characters and setting the stage for a quick and enjoyable read. In this case, however, I felt like it was a little too much sex and not enough story.

Characters - 4.5 stars - This is where the story shone for me. Dani is clever and has definite street smarts, having grown up in the foster care system. However, she also has a sweetness beneath the hard surface that really drew me to her. Although I couldn't agree with her choice of lifestyle, I could still like her and feel as though she would be a strongly loyal friend. Rand, on the other hand, seems at first glance like the typical billionaire, born with a silver spoon in his mouth. But as we get to know more about his history, we realize that he has a dark past, much more of a match for Dani than we (or she) originally realized.

Title - 4 stars - The title definitely fits the story, while still fitting the "blank....It" format of the previous books in this series.

Cover - 4 stars - So it's a typical cover for this genre--hot male abs--but there's also nothing wrong with it. And I like the dark edges, which implied the secrets that each character held.

Overview - 3.5 stars - I had originally rated this 4 stars, but as I thought about it, I realized that there really wasn't much of a story except for the sexual scenes between Dani and Rand. Admittedly, they were very steamy, but there wasn't enough content in between these scenes to hold the story together. And if you don't like bondage, then this story is not for you. There's a lot of power-struggle-sex involved, which made this more of a dark romance than something fun and light-hearted.

This is the fourth book in the Rule Breakers series but it can be read as a stand alone. The beautiful cover of the book instantly grabs your attention and gives the reader a little snapshot of what they can expect. The two main characters although very different socially, one a rich socialite, the other a con artist, have had similar upbringings. Both abused and unwanted as children, they battle their own feelings as well as their feelings for each other.

"I would like to see you again, Dani. Tonight. Tomorrow. Next week."

"Well, um, thank you, I guess. But no thank you."

Although I want to see how the story continued, overall it was an easy read and I would definitely read more from the author.
