In No Baggage, Clara Bensen recounts her unconventional journey with the enigmatic Jeff as they embark on a spontaneous, baggage-free European trip. While the concept is intriguing, the narrative is marred by the reality that only privileged, well-off white individuals could undertake such carefree travel. Moreover, Jeff's unlikable character often detracts from the intended charm of the story. Despite these shortcomings, Bensen's writing engages and provides a unique perspective on minimalist travel and self-discovery.
I love travel memoirs and wanted to love this, but there were a few things here I couldn't really relate to. One, she is so much younger than I am I found myself shaking my head at some of her observations thinking that she just had a lot of growing up to do. And two, I wanted it to be MORE about travel and less about her relationship with her boyfriend. That's not to say that it's a bad book, I just wanted something different and didn't really connect to this one.
I liked the blurb and the idea that she travels with a purse and one dress. But found it too filled with 20-something self discoveries. I am obviously not the target audience. DNF
