Cold Moon is the 3rd book in The Huntress/FBI Thriller series. The Hunt for Cara Lindstrom is over and she is arrested for killing a pimp. The only witness, a sixteen year old girl/prostitute disappears and won't testify. While Cara is in jail, several more pimps and johns are killed and various people say they did it. With no evidence and no one to testify against her, they have to let Cara go. Roarke is on the case of the abducted girls and murders, but he is still obsessed by Cara. Will they find who is murdering these men? Is Cara behind it at all?
This is an excellent series, however it does pose a moral dilemma. Cara and the murderers in this book only kill evil people who are hurting, traumatizing and killing others, but how do we condone murder and vigilante justice? Roarke has his own demons, and a sense to find evil as well. He can feel when Cara is near, which is a bit spooky. This book and it's investigation was full of twists and surprises. Although there were many arrests, the story does not end. For every person involved in human trafficking that is killed or arrested, there are at least 2 more. I look forward to seeing where this story goes next, as it ended with lots left to investigate. I definitely recommend you read or listen to this series in order, as the story progresses from book to book.
FBI Special agent Matthew Roarke and his team have caught Cara Lindstrom. They know she has killed many very bad men but they can only prosecute her for one. Unfortunately things will soon go from bad to much worse.
This is a crime thriller that has run for three books so far. Each book had a beginning and end so you can read each on it's own, but are much better in order. The subject matter is incredibly difficult to read about but is a sad reflection on our world. There is a lot of danger for all our characters and no way to solve it forever.
An exciting read.
Book three, Cold Moon, places Cara out of her comfort zone, introduces new characters
and tests Roarke to the limit .... I love it when a character is put through the mill both
emotionally and physically and, believe me Sokoloff does it with aplomb.
This was a fantastic addition to the series! This is a series that really needs to be read in order since each book builds on the events from the previous installments. I have really been enjoying myself over the past couple of months as I have been working my way through the series and I am happy to report that this book was just as good as I had hoped it would be.
Cara Lindstrom has been captured and is awaiting trial but her story is far from over. Agent Roarke is drawn to Cara and can't seem to stay away from her even though he knows that he should. Despite the fact that the team knows that Cara is responsible for a lot of deaths, they have only one case to move forward with which hinges on the testimony of a teenage sex worker. When their witness goes missing, a string of events begins that brings a lot of things into question.
This was a story that hooked me from the very beginning. I wondered where the story would go since Cara was in custody but I had nothing to worry about because Roake and the other agents had plenty on their agenda. I like the fact that this book really made me question who the criminals really were. Cara has committed crimes but the victims of her crimes are not innocents. All of the characters felt very authentic complete with their own unique set of flaws.
R.C. Bray does a fantastic job with this series. He does a great job with a large cast of varied characters. I think that his voice is really perfect for this type of book and I found that his delivery added to the excitement of the story. I found it very easy to listen to this book for hours at a time.
I would recommend this series to others. It is an exciting series with great characters and an exciting mystery. I think that the profiling aspect of the story is extremely well done. I can't wait to get started on the next installment in this series.
I received a digital review copy of this book from Thomas & Mercer via NetGalley and purchased a copy of the audiobook.
(I received a free copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.)
The hunt for mass murderer Cara Lindstrom is over. FBI Special Agent Matthew Roarke has been working for this moment: the capture of a killer who savagely hunts the worst of humanity. But Roarke remains traumatized by his own near-death at the hands of the serial killer who slaughtered Cara’s family…and haunted by the enigmatic woman who saved his life.
Then the sixteen-year-old prostitute who witnessed Cara’s most recent murder goes missing, and suddenly pimps are turning up dead on the streets of San Francisco, killed with an MO eerily similar to Cara’s handiwork.
Is a new killer on the loose with a mission even more deadly than hers? In the pulse-pounding third Huntress/FBI Thrillers book, Roarke will have to go on the hunt…and every woman he meets, even those closest to him, may prove deadly.
*2.5 stars*
Okay, I think I am done with this series now. The second book was an improvement on the first, but this one seems to have fallen back into the same formula as the first. Slow, tedious and missing the vital ingredient that makes a great thriller novel - the desire to read one more chapter. Or even one more page. This was hard work and there are far too many good books out there to slog through the others in this series...
