The first book in the Black Wolves series (the sequel, "Dead Empire" is available now).
When I started reading this, I hadn't known it was set in the same world as the author's Crossroads series, but it's not essential to have read that in order to enjoy this one.

Black Wolves contains all of the elements that make a Kate Elliott novel so good: the writing, characters, world-building, and plot are all great. It's a hefty tome, so if you don't like doorstoppers, then maybe save this for another time.

Fans of the author are likely to already have this, but I do recommend it for others, too.

I read a couple of chapters, and I don't think I have the attention span for this right now. I also think it might help if I read the other series set in this same world first. Plus, with my memory, I really should wait for epic fantasy series to finish so I don't have to reread the first door-stopper to understand the second.
