Flight from Death is the first book in the adult paranormal series, Fly by Night by Yasmine Galenorn. This book features dragon shifters and vampires, and I was all in right from the mention of them in the summary. This was a great introductory novel into this world. I am hooked and ready to continue on with the series.

In Flight From Death we meet our two main characters Alex and Shimmer. Shimmer is a dragon shifter, who has been exiled from the Dragon Reaches and has been banished to work Earthside with Alex, who is a vampire who owns the Fly by Night Magical Investigation Agency. This world is an urban fantasy/paranormal set up where humans and paranormal live alongside each other. I really liked the world building in this story. Yasmine Galenorn does a great job painting a very clear picture of everything. Honestly, her characters and world building made me super excited to continue on with the series. The plot felt a bit lacking in some parts, but I chalked that up to this being a foundational novel, and the characters more than made up for the slightly boring bits. I can't wait to learn more about the characters in the next book.

I really enjoyed the mystery that was present in this first book. I thought it was the perfect interest element to keep the story moving, as we learned about the characters and the world. I think this was a really strong start to what seems like it will be a very promisingly great series! I can't wait to continue on.
