Inspector Sejer 11
I hadn't when I started this book realised it was part of a series. I hate starting series part way through, and especially at book 11.
That said I don't think it mattered for me to much.
An interesting story line, and one that keeps you going, keeps you guessing and keeps you interested. I will hopefully one day get to read all the work by this author.
(I received a free copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.)
‘He'd just learnt to walk,’ she said. ‘He was sitting playing on his blanket, then all of a sudden he was gone.’
A 16-month-old boy is found drowned in a pond right by his home. Chief Inspector Sejer is called to the scene as there is something troubling about the mother’s story. As even her own family turns against her, Sejer is determined to get to the truth.
This is the second Inspector Sejer novel I have read (the other being The Caller) and, sadly, I had the same feeling towards this as well...meh!
What I love about a good mystery is the 'whodunit' aspect. That is what I read them for, to match wits with the bad guy and "solve it" before the detective does. Well, that's not an option here as we are given the crime and how it happened on the first few pages. Nothing more to it, really.
What happens from there is pretty much, well, nothing...lots of talk about the mind of the killer and why they did what they did. But, really, nothing happens (as far as action) goes for over 200 pages.
I don't think I will read another of hers. Just not what I look for in a mystery novel.
