This is a lovely devotional for the busy believer. It's not about how long we spend with Jesus but the quality of that time. This is a great encourager to find time for JESUS and His messages and encouragement to you. Highly recommended for yourself or as a gift to others. If you find the concept of reading the bible or long books to feel closer to God but it's too much, this is your solution.
I enjoyed this devotional. I loved the mixture of personal (relatable) stories and teachings paired with more than one scripture to back up the premise after each reading. So often devotionals have one line of scripture and paragraphs of the author's thoughts without much more than feelings to back it up. I appreciated that Sheila Walsh valued including more than one small passage. Overall a great, encouraging book - perfect for those who want to be prompted to seek more depth in their walk but also don't have tons of time (i.e. busy moms, etc.)
Thanks Netgalley for providing this book in exchange for my honest review.
"In this very moment, God offers you the gift of His presence."
Thanks to Thomas Nelson and NetGalley for gifting me with a digital ARC of 5 MINUTES WITH JESUS, a devotional book written by Sheila Walsh.
This beautiful little daily devotional is the perfect way to start my busy day.
There is a diversity of topics such as hope, forgiveness, shame, peace, love, trust and faith.
Each devotion begins with a little personal anecdote or a Bible story followed by a thought provoking quote. The devotion ends with "Five Minutes in the Word" which consists of four or five verses of scripture that are meaningful to the topic.
This book is the perfect for gifting a friend or for yourself.
Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life. Psalm 143:8 NIV

"5 Minutes with Jesus" is a Christian devotional. The devotional starts out with a couple of verses and follows with a practical message. The devotional is helpful for a busy person. It is an easy way to draw into Christ's presence as you face the day. Sheila shared her personal experience in the devotional. Her experience can be related to the readers lives. I appreciate the publisher and netgalley for allowing me to read and review this book. The opinions are my own and not anyone else. I am posting my review on facebook, netgalley, Goodreads, my blog, Amazon and sharing it with the church staff.
I came across this book in my search for something by Sheila Walsh. 5 Minutes With Jesus is a devotional for busy women who want to have a little Spiritual "snack" every day and want this to include a few Bible verses or short passages.
The daily stories lead to a truth about God and our relationship with him. The Bible verses show the reader that this truth can be found in the Bible and they give her something to meditate on.
I can recommend this book to a person who is going through a difficult time and struggling to get into the Bible, or a person who doesn't really have the time. 5 minutes and a few verses is much better than nothing, and these 5 minutes might ignite a desire to read more and get to know God more intimately.
I received a free digital reviewer's copy from Thomas Nelson via Netgalley. Thank you!
A few minutes well invested
Well-known speaker and best-selling author Sheila Walsh presents "5 Minutes with Jesus" published by Thomas Nelson GIFT. The 50 devotions all deal with a specific topi. Walsh shares a personal story of herself or others or retells a Bible story. Then she finishes with "Five Minutes in the Word": Bible verses that deal with this particular topic. The devotional is practical when readers have only a small amount of time but would like some biblical encouragement. For those readers I highly recommend the devotional. It is easy to read and presented in a great design. There is a diversity of topics treated which are deep and meaningful and relevant for today. I do not recommend the devotional for readers who are looking for an in-depth Bible interpretation or for those who are looking for a personal application because this is not included in the devotional. There is a table of contents that lists the treated topics but list of the used Bible references is missing.
The complimentary copy of this book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley free of charge. I was under no obligation to offer a positive review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This devotional was thought-provoking and challenged me to step in more into God' word daily when everything seems to be snowed under.
Reading through these pages, it felt like it was made for me. First of all, the format was super friendly for a busy mom who's trying to balance work and family life. I read each devotion in less than five minutes. Sheila tells short stories that all of us can relate to, and brings it together by featuring scripture that readers can get in to on their own time for further reading.
Great quick and easy devotionals to read. Highly recommend! I really liked the length of each reading and the format.
This book was a bit different than I anticipated and I am unable to give it a fair and favorable review. I appreciate your understanding and patience and I apologize for this.
Sheila Walsh is a voice from my teenage years and I have found her writing helpful and thought-provoking through many decades. This book does not disappoint.
Great book to read for those who have a fast-paced morning. You can read this on public transportation or even in the office during a quick break. Love the intimacy within this book.
I loved it to see you can pray in 5 min. Short but good. I hope Sheila Walsh will make more of theese books. I'm in to buy it. I hope this will be translate to Dutch soon so i can read it with my friends.
This is one of my least favorite devotionals. It's not really the writer's fault when it comes to talent. Sheila Walsh is very truthful and uses true life examples. It's the way the book I set up: about two short pages of devotion with two pages of Bible verses. For me, this isn't the ideal set up. I hate taking Bible verses out of context and I really like when devotionals focus on one or two and really help you understand it.
But if you are looking for having many different verses for each topic, then you would do well to get this book. It really does cover a variety of Old and New Testament passes for subjects like forgivness, shame, and hope.
In reading this, I almost felt as though I was listening to a close friend speaking words of truth, encouragement, and comfort. A digital copy of this book was provided to me by Thomas Nelson via NetGalley for review, however I decided to purchase a physical copy after reading it because this is a book I can see reading many more times. Sheila Walsh is an amazing woman of God, beautiful both inside and out, and her writing is incredibly inspirational!
I have found this to be perfect for me while waiting in the car for my kids after classes. To read during waits in the doctors office.
I can imagine having it laying around my house so I can easily pick it up at random times during my day.
The reading sections are so well thought out and well written. You feel like you've read a whole chapter of a book and done a bible study even though it's only a page or so with a handful of relevant scriptures.
Just the perfect amount to read quickly then ponder as I go about my day.
I've already picked up a few physical copies to have on hands for gifts this year.
I did receive a digital ARC from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
lovely read. very informative and enjoyable. learned a lot from it
5 Minutes with Jesus is a devotional with heart and soul. It doesn't just have anecdotal stories, the reflections on Bible verses are meaty and thought provoking. This book invites deeper study, and would be a welcome devotional in my collection and is perfect for gift giving.
Here are profound life-changing truths for your fast-paced days. God offers you the gift of His presence as you spend time in His Word. With honesty and vulnerability, Sheila Walsh helps you find peace and perspective in the midst of your hectic life. Every day features a powerful devotion and Scripture to nourish you, sustain you, assuring you that God is with you and you are not alone. These five minutes with Jesus each day will give you God’s peace. You will realize that this precious time with Christ will become the most peaceful and meaningful moments of your entire life.
5 Minutes with Jesus: Making Today Matter is a daily devotional book by Sheila Walsh.
This daily devotional book may easily be incorporated into personal devotional time or utilized to start spending quiet time with God each day. Each chapter includes the devotional text, as well as a section that's titled Five Minutes in the Word, which consists of several scripture verses to read.
In the Introduction, Walsh shares, "I know it seems like we really don't have time for one more thing. But I also know that God's time is not like ours, and when we give Him our time, He can do more within us in five minutes than if we spent five hours on our own.... It is the desire of my heart that on each page you'll find truth from God's Word that will nourish you, sustain you, and remind you that you are not alone."
Making Today Matter is an encouraging devotional book, which is geared towards women of all ages. And it's an ideal gift for friends and family.
Note: I received this book from Netgalley, which is a program designed for bloggers to write book reviews in exchange for books, yet the opinions expressed in this review are my own.
