Such a great story! I immediately fell in love with these characters and the town of Summer Harbor. Eden and her son Micah are on their way to Maine to escape those that were supposed to be protecting her, when her car suddenly breaks down in Summer Harbor. Micah is dozing in his car seat and Eden knows that she is going to have to figure something out now. She is out of money so she knows that she is going to have to get a job here until she can save up some money to go any further.
Eden meets Beau, a former deputy that is working full time on his deceased parent's Christmas tree farm. Beau has been in sort of a pickle himself because his Aunt has just fallen and needs help while he is away working. When Beau meets Eden, he knows just who he is going to get to help out with his Aunt. Things couldn't have worked out any better!
Things progress for Eden and Beau and they become closer and closer. Beau knows that there is something that Eden, AKA "Kate", is not telling him though. Will Beau be able to uncover Eden's secrets and deal with the baggage she brings with her? You will not regret picking this one up and reading it. Denise Hunter always delivers a great read and I can't wait for more in the Summer Harbor series!
When are you free from fear?
Eden Martelli is on the run. She can trust no one, even the men of justice-especially not the men, of justice or not.
But when things had happened and she is broke and with a son to take care in the cold winter, she fights back and takes a temporary job. But with the job comes the Callahan clan, and especially Beau Callahan.
Beau is both intrigued and alerted by the beautiful "Kate". She is obviously scated, but strong nevertheless. Never had a woman affected him like that-not even his own girlfriend. But the fear in "Kate" is much deeper than he can realize, and more than valid, too.
The sweetest novel from my beloved author. Denise Hunter is not afraid to write about the real, painful problems, and she is very tender in her understanding of the pain. This is really the author to follow! I love her realness, her insight, her courage and the healing she infuses her novels with.
Here the topic to explore and to heal is fear. Eden has been abused in her marriage and has seen too much sucker punches from life to know better than to trust anyone. And she is string in her trying to do anything to protect her son. Unfortunately, all that strength also makes her guarded.
Beau is very willing to help her, but his protectiveness clashes with her fierce fight for independence-something she has never truly had.
I get them both and I love them both. Eden for...being Eden, much stronger character than she knows about herself. She is strong not in being rude and self-entitled, but because of this quiet voice inside telling her to make one more step, and one more. It is not shameful to experience the bitter things in life-we all have to experience them. It is not shame to be broken. And I applaud to anyone who is moving towards hope even a bit (and hugging the ones suffering without that move).
I love Beau because of his protectiveness and understanding. Of course, he is too good to be real in the real life-but oh how I wish he was!
My only complaint is that the novel could go even deeper. But that is just because I've been spoiled by the quality of Ms Hunter's writing and insight.
Read this. Drink its sweetness and hope. And hope again.
Award-winning author Denise Hunter kicks off a new series set in Summer Harbor, Maine and revolving around the relationships of the Callahan brothers.
In Falling Like Snowflakes, widowed Eden Martelli is on the run with her five-year-old son. Part of the Witness Protection program, they saw the murder of the U.S. marshall who was in charge of their security. When Eden arrives in Summer Harbor with a broken-down car, an expensive repair, and no money, she has no choice but to stay in Summer Harbor for the time being.
Meanwhile Beau Callahan left his sheriff’s job to take over the operations of the family Christmas tree farm after his parents’ death. Beau is facing his first Christmas without them. When Beau’s aunt needs someone to help her while she recuperates after a hospital stay, Beau thinks Eden is the answer to prayer–and Eden needs the job, even if he can’t check her references. When he starts to investigate her background, Eden’s past catches up to her, putting them in danger.
As they get to know one another, they find themselves attracted to one another. Can Beau protect Eden and her son? Will they find a future together as they rebuild trust and let go of their fears?
Hunter is known for her adult inspirational contemporary romances. Falling Like Snowflakes is different from her earlier works with its danger and suspense, while still having romantic tension. The faith element is light but evident.
