I requested this one back in the day as I had every intention of reading it. However, its been years and I still haven't gotten around to it and while I feel guilty at not reviewing a book I think that I need to admit to myself that I won't be reading this one anytime soon....if at all.

This is the third book in the Love to the Rescue series by Rachel Lacey and in this story we get to meet Olivia and Pete. These characters hit if off to me and I love the way that Rachel gave them chemistry from the start. This can be read as a standalone.

Pete is a deputy, but wants to become a detective. That is his ultimate dream. Pete became a deputy after his father was a drug dealer and ended up committing murder because of his dealings with drugs. Pete was determined not to turn out like that and to help make a difference. Pete was once married but it did not work out and now he has a fear of letting anyone else in his life. Pete is a quiet guy but his looks seem to shout to Olivia!

Olivia is a young lady that is in law school but she is not quiet sure that is what she wants to do with the rest of her life. Olivia also has a passion for animals and preventing cruelty to them. She takes on the local chicken farm as her target and tends to go at them as much as she can.

Olivia gets drunk on her birthday and thinks it would be a good idea to vandalize the chicken house by spray painting on the walls. What she wasn't expecting is for someone to be out there watching and catch her. Not only did someone catch her but it was Pete, a deputy. Olivia gets arrested and spend the night in jail, but she is not too disappointed because Pete as her company, he is a sight to behold.

Pete is doing an investigation into vandalism a knows that Olivia is not the one that he is looking for for all the other accounts. This was a one time thing for her. When Olivia starts getting threats at her house after getting out of jail, Pete takes it upon himself to look out for her, even though he know it might get him in trouble. When Pete and Olivia get closer and closer, sparks begin to fly and these two find themselves together a lot.

Pete is still trying to work through some of his demons from his past, but will he let it get in the way of him and Olivia? You will have to read this one to find out. Good job Rachel Lacey!

Ever After by Rachel Lacey is the perfect book to read when life is getting too busy and you want to slow things down, relax and enjoy a fun novel. The storyline is light but still deals with important topics and the characters are interesting and relatable (including the pets).
Olivia Bennett’s parents want her to follow in their footsteps and become an attorney. Olivia doesn’t know what she wants to do in life, but she does have a cause she strongly supports, animal rights and the humane treatment of farm to factory raised animals. Her “cause” lands her right in the arms of hunky, well built, deputy sheriff Pete Sampson.
After celebrating her 29th birthday and while in an inebriated state, Oliva attempts to spray paint “Chicken Assassins” on the Halverson Food building. Her friends abandon her as the blue lights and sirens get closer, and she is caught red-handed by Pete. She is handcuffed, arrested and taken in to custody.
I love the sexual tension and chemistry between Olivia and Pete. They have completely different personalities, Olivia acts before she thinks and is explosive and Pete is serious and contemplative. Will their differences keep them apart or bring them closer together? You will have to read the book to find out. One thing I know for certain is that you won’t be disappointed!
