This shifter story could have taken place at any time of the year, but the fact that it’s at Christmastime makes the romance sweeter and the resolution of the mystery more delightful.

The MacTire sisters have been traveling around the country buying and renovating old boutique hotels. They have also been seeking the answer to the puzzle of what happened to their mother’s twin sister, who disappeared a number of years ago. Both of their quests converge in the wolf pack town of Silver. There are so many secrets that Laurel and her sisters don’t really know who to trust.

CJ Silver is a deputy sheriff in his human form and an alpha wolf in the pack. He and Laurel fall in love, decide to become mates and join forces to discover the solution to the search for truth that brought the sisters to Silver, and also resolve some of the questions CJ has about his own heritage.

Most of the story moves along as a sweet romance novel plus a shifter story, and a bit of a mystery novel. That is, until a huge twist occurs that I didn’t see coming and will bet you don’t either! I couldn’t read fast enough to satisfy my curiosity of what will happen next, who is who and who is doing what. Is there really a ghost haunting the hotel? What happened to missing characters? Are the ghost hunter reality TV show people going to wind up taking the hotel away from the MacTire sisters and is that even their true motive?

I love the writing style of Terry Spear and the Heart of the Wolf series. The books don’t have to be read in any particular order, so if you haven’t read any of them yet this is the perfect one to begin with for a great holiday season read.
