I enjoyed the latest book in the Local Foods series. Cam becomes a prime suspect when a resident dies after consuming produce from her farm and Cam set out to investigate in order to clear her name. This was a well-written and fast-paced drama that gave me insights on farming that was woven into a good mystery that had plenty of suspects to teasingly keep me enjoying this story The author did a great job in setting up this finely tuned plot with great characters, good conversation and a nice setting. I also enjoyed seeing more of Ellie.

The way the author put in about farming just amazes me. To not call other farmers before 8 am? Really? We have had people call the house at 5 am especially in the winter when they ran out of hay. They really must get a late start on the day up north. Down south when it is harvest season or we are extra busy we are up and at it no later than 6 am. Then we work long past sundown. I have even harvested from my garden during the middle of the night. As stated in other book reviews of this series: This Author Knows Nothing About Farming!

I admit I know nothing about farming in the north but down south we have been using No-Till on crops for years. It is not anything new. Then all crops get rotated yearly, not just ever couple of years.

Then to think that this author knows nothing about chemicals. At one time the wonderful idiots in government pays companies to create chemicals to help farmers to control weeds. The government also paid companies to create GMO seeds. This is NOT on farmers. This is ON the idiots in office. Now a days only little hobby farmers are able to produce a small crop using organic, non-GMO crops. There is no way in the world for small time farmers to produce anything like this. This is something the author and others need to realize.

I enjoyed the mystery. But I have read this before. I guess I just forgot to at it to my Read list and what year.

Thankfully only two more books and in this series and I will be finished. I hate stopping a series in the middle but I might end up doing that with this series. Just so annoying over how the author knows nothing about farmer but turns around and writes about it without checking fact!

I enjoyed Farmed and Dangerous though I found a few things repeated, such as, the fact that Cam's former boyfriend was a bit overbearing. We must have been told that 3-4 times in the first 15% of the book. It's repeated less in the following book, Murder Most Fowl, but is still mentioned. Speaking of boyfriends, her new one, Pete, leaves a lot to be desired and I wonder why the author chose to even bother with a romantic element.

Not having read the first two books in the series, I had no problem starting in midflow. There are numerous very brief mentions to events in the first two books which aren't explained and that was fine with me. It seemed natural. I hate rehashing of details from previous books (more so, of course, when I've read the previous books). If a reader wants to know more about how someone ended up in a wheelchair, go back and read the other books.

I have read cozies set on farms, but this setting and Cam's subscriber situation and methods of natural farming were new to me. How accurate it was didn't bother me since I wouldn't know. The details we were given weren't excessive and didn't detract from the mystery for me. I also liked Cam's relationship with and how the Manor and it's inhabitants are portrayed. Not every senior is a Miss Marple/Hercule Poirot, they seemed real.

I felt there were a few loose ends that didn't get addressed (like what happened at the Manor on that snowy night and other Manor issues), but I'd actually forgot about them until I was writing this review.

I liked Farmed enough that I gladly started book #4, Murder Most Fowl, immediately after I finished Farmed.

I received my copy from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
