Krissy
and Vicki move to a small town to open a coffee shop/bookstore. Too soon the shop lives up to its name Death by Coffee when the man across the street dies after buying a coffee from Krissy. Having a mystery writer as a dad and loving puzzles, Krissy couldn’t help but try to solve what she believes was murder. How can a man allergic to peanuts happen to forget his EpiPen on the very days he has an allergic reaction to peanuts? Krissy won’t stop until she clears herself and her coffee of the crime.

This was an enjoyable book. I enjoyed the characters. The dialogue set the pacing. The plot was tightly woven to keep me interested in all aspects in the telling of this drama.
Not sure why it took me so long to try this series and it was really cute and fun.
Krissy and her friend Vicki thought it would be fun to open up a bookstore cafe and call it Death by Coffee, after one of her father's mystery books. It was cute until a man that just left her coffee shop ends up dead and then the words rang a bit too true. Though he didn't die by the coffee it still made her feel bad and it wasn't helping them get customers.
So Krissy feels that she needs to try and figure things out and gets herself in a bit of trouble that started out with Paul, an officer taking her to the crime scene. Who takes a date to the crime scene! They both get arrested by a smug officer but Paul's mother is the police chief, so they didn't get in trouble. It does peak her interest in trying to solve the crime though and that gets her in a lot more trouble.
I like Krissy though she is sort of living in her father's shadow she is also trying to make something of herself with her bookstore cafe. There is a major fan of her fathers that comes into the cafe and it's pretty funny. Vicki is a bit of a worry wart but I can't blame her as they were not getting much traffic into their cafe at first. We don't really get to know her much in this first one but as a secondary character I am sure we will in the future.
I must say I didn't figure out the killer in this one so I really liked the mystery and thought it was done well.
Overall I thought this was a good start to a cozy series and I am always a fan of bookstore and coffee themes so this is a great combination. :) If you love cozies you should try this one!
***Disclosure: I was given this book by the author for an honest review.***
I am one of those people that cannot stick with one genre when reading. I read so many different books at one time I confuse my family on what I am reading. At one time I kept a Kindle in my office, bedroom, kitchen, and vehicle. I am now down to one Kindle and the others are laying in my desk draw collecting dust.
Being an avid coffee drinker I was intrigued by the book’s title, Death by Coffee. After reading the description I knew this would be an amazing book to read. Then I saw the cover. For me book covers in the mystery genre are the best. They remind me of a beautiful picture that leaves the reader guessing what has happened and what might happen next.
I am personally jealous of anyone who has a town with a small coffee café and/or bookstore. Living in a rural area with a small town that only has the basics stores I feel like I am missing out. When starting the book readers are greeted with Krissy and Vicki. Two great friends trying to jumpstart their business into the hip place to be.
I was quickly pulled into the story and felt the characters were playing out the story on the big screen for me. To say this book was a quick read is an understatement. I love the mystery. The author wrote an intriguing story that keeps the reader wanting to turn pages late into the night just to see who-done-it.
I jumped between several characters while trying to figure out who was the murderer. I honestly admit that I did not figure it out until the character, Krissy, figured out everything.
This was a great read and an amazing start to a wonderful series I plan to follow. The bunnies and I recommend this book to any who enjoy mysteries novels.
The bunnies and I give this book 4 carrots.
Two good friends up sticks and open a book/coffee shop in a very small town which they call Death by Coffee after the title of Krissy's father's novel. All very nice and respectable but on the opening day a customer is later found dead. This is a lighthearted, frothy read suitable for anyone who has a couple of hours to spare. Krissy turned out to be irritating, leaving Vicki to cope alone, acting as if she was a detective and generally rubbing people up the wrong way. Loved the idea and the book cover which was all nice and cosy looking!
This was a great mystery, with heart and I thoroughly enjoyed reading such a well written story.
The best part about this book? It taught me that bitter coffee is much improved if you put a cookie (or some Nilla wafers... it was all I had) in it.
The not so best part about this book? Pretty much everything else. But I was interested and it was a fast enough read that I plowed through and finished it. Just not my thing.
(I received a copy of "Death by Coffee" through NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest & original review.)
