Unfortunately I did not finish this one as I found everything a little too 'nice'. Nothing excited or particularly memorable about this one
JUST A LITTLE KISS - Renita Pizzitola
SWEET NEW ADULT ROMANCE - 4 stars
Plot - 4 stars - Felicity is dissatisfied with her life in a small town, especially after having her heart broken by her ex. She yearns to leave but doesn't have the courage to start a new life. So she sticks around and develops short-term relationships with summer boys. This year, however, the new guy in town sparks something more and she gets in a little deeper.
Writing - 4 stars - This is a new-to-me author, and I found that she captured my attention right away. I like her casual, easy style and liked the characters she created. Pizziola has a good sense of humor that kept things light and fun, with some entertaining camaraderie and conversation.
Characters - 4 stars - Felicity is a strong-minded 19-year-old who lives in a small town. She had her heart broken when her ex found another woman, but she can't seem to move on because everyone still thinks of her as Brody's girl. She's frustrated and just wants to have a little fun, no-strings-attached, with Summer Boys. As we get to know her better, though, she has a lot more facets to her personality. She is overly anxious (which drove me crazy until she admitted and addressed the issue), but she's thoughtful and ambitious. She just doesn't know how to go about getting what she wants or even thinking she deserves it. Mason is a privileged young college student who is visiting for the summer, and he's immediately attracted to Felicity. He's cute and funny, and I liked how he thought about things before he made a move. They both seem so impossibly young, though.
Title - 4 stars - This becomes Felicity's fixation when she and Mason are attracted to each other, but before they go any further.
Cover - 3 stars - The cover is fairly typical of this genre, but I don't find the couple particularly attractive, so it lost a point for me there.
Overview - 4 stars - I was expecting this to be a New Adult romance, but the characters all just seemed so young. Their romance went back and forth between an adult sexual relationship to a grade-school crush. But the characters were attractive, and the camaraderie and chatter between them and among the rest of the group seemed authentic and very entertaining. As we get more into the story, we find that these characters have much more depth to them, and I was definitely rooting for their success. Even though they're young, they have good heads on their shoulders and don't just impulsively jump into anything. I enjoyed reading this new-to-me author and plan to go back and read the first two books in this series.
