I am a fan of Lauren Layne but this one was unrelatable to me and hard to enjoy. I did not finish it as the storyline moved slowly for me. I love her stories where there are strong females who are independent and strong. This one was not relatable.
4 Stars!
Well, somehow this was my first Lauren Layne read even though several of this author’s books have been sitting on my TBR for years! It will definitely not be my last. It was a fun, swoons read with some very like-able characters. I loved Parker and Ben’s friendship, their banter, and all that came later.
This book was actually well on its way to being a 5-star read for me until I got close to the end. The tension/conflict went on way too long with them and then the ending seemed way too short. And the epilogue was barely there. Kind of disappointing. Otherwise, I loved it and I am looking forward to reading more from this author very soon.
If you liked Josh and Hazel's Guide to Not Dating, then definitely check this out. This book gave me serious Josh and Hazel vibes.
Parker Blanton and Ben Olsen have been besties since they met freshman year of college. Now two years out of college they are still going strong. Enough so that they are also roommates. Parker has a boyfriend whom she's been with for almost five years. Ben is happily single and a bit of a man-slut.
When Parker finds out her boyfriend isn't 'feeling it" anymore and has been thinking about another woman, she's blindsided. In her attempt to get over her ex, Parker enlists the help of Ben and her work bestie, to help her learn about casual relationships. Parker soon decides she needs to start with someone she knows and trusts before venturing out to strangers. She approaches Ben with a deal and rules. He agrees and they are soon sleeping with each other, yet keeping it from their friends.
Ben gets a little nervous when he realizes he only wants Parker and that sex with other women no long appeals to him.
When her ex, Lance, decides he wants to try again, neither Parker or Ben say the right thing for each other to take a chance. This also results in breaking their friendship. It's not until things look like they are coming to a head that they both realize what they have to loose.
This book started out really funny. It got a little serious towards the end, but I really enjoyed it. I'm looking to see where the rest of the series goes. If the characters are interlinked or not.
Parker and Ben have been best friends since their freshman year of college. After college, Parker and Ben decided to try out the roommate thing. A guy and a girl can just be roommates and nothing else, they were going to prove it. They manage to pull this off for awhile because Parker is in a relationship with Lance.
After five years of being together, Lance decides that he wants to call it quits with Parker. This is when things begin to change for Parker and Ben. Of course Ben is there for Parker through the breakup. They are best friends anyway!
Once day Parker and Ben toss around the idea of friends with benefits. What would it hurt anyway right, its just sex with no strings attached. This goes on for a little while and Parker and Ben become closer than what they realize.
Parker's ex-boyfriend decides that he wants to get back with her, but Ben is not so sure about it. He has become very possessive and protective of Parker. Ben thinks it is just a fluke think and tries to find a girl for himself. Well, Parker gets super jealous when she finds this out. Will Parker and Ben be able to get back to a just friends relationship or have they ruined that?
You will have to read this one to find out how things end for Parker and Ben. Lauren Layne has done a great job with this friends to lovers story that will keep you turning the pages!
More More More. I love you Lauren Layne. You have the ability to make me forget my family and feed them cereal because I just can't be bothered to stop reading the story you've captured me in.
This books was sweet and had a great trope that I wish I could find more of!
I really liked another series but this author and so this was on my list to read. I liked this book. Parker and Ben were always just friends. It never even occurred to them to try and be more than that. When Parker gets dumped by her boyfriend she decides to try the no strings attached thing like Ben but had trouble connecting with the people she meets. Her idea is that its easier to have sex with someone you actually like and suggest the friends with benefits thing to Ben. As always its good until its not. Things change and Parker and Ben are wondering can they go back to how they were before.
I liked this book. Not as much as the other series I read by her but this one was still good. I liked Parker. She was a cool girl and I see how she could have a guy for a best friend. Ben was great too. He had a few issues that were not visible on he surface but crucial to his character. Once I learned of these things, I understood his attitude toward Parker at a certain part in the story. 3 stars for the story
