Ace and NetGalley provided me with an electronic copy of Dark Ascension. I was under no obligation to review this book and my opinion is freely given.

Fortitude has reluctantly joined his family in business, although there are some perks when your mother is Madeline Scott, a powerful and vicious vampire. Taking on a role normally reserved for his brother Chivalry, Fort and his girlfriend Suzume try their hand at negotiating on behalf of immigrants trying to enter the Scott's territory. When the family is thrown into crisis mode, will Fort be able to successfully advocate on behalf of the individuals in their territory? Will Fortitude be forced into a role for which he is not ready?

Dark Ascension is an example of how an author can have a successful progression of a main character while maintaining an interesting plot line. This book shows Fortitude in a new light and gives readers even more of a reason to cheer for this character. Readers who like dark fantasy and suspense will enjoy Dark Ascension. I look forward to reading more by author M.L. Brennan in the future, especially if the book features Fortitude Scott as the main character.
