This is a sweet story about Santa's younger years .His parents, supportive and loving, knew he was going to be special - as he was creative and generous. Who else in the neighborhood trained hamsters to pull a matchbox filled with tiny presents around the house? His 'Santa traits' were evident at a young age as he loved the color red, cold temperatures and chimneys. - and of course - enjoyed making toys. A nice note is mentioned that Santa didn't fit in with the crowd as a teenager, but he followed his dreams and became the generous figure beloved by children everywhere.

I loved "When Santa was a Baby"! Illustrations are soft and warm, and they remind of my favorite illustrator, Mary Blair. The story is interesting and my 3yo daughter loved it too!
