Summer, a lake, family secrets… I’m in. The writing was good and I liked the characters and the mystery. It was an enjoyable read.
Many thanks to Lake Union Publishing and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

I was initially drawn to this book because of the setting. My family also had a cottage on a lake in northern Michigan where we would spend our summers.I found that I also enjoyed the alternating POVs and timelines. The author made the transitions easy to follow. Overall this was an "average" read for me.

Of love, secrets and the lake what oversaw it all...

This story covers past and present - past, when young Mamie has witnessed her sister´s death by drowning and then later she has witnessed her granddaughter´s first love. Jess´s story is also told in past and present - a young girl in love, and later 33-year-old young woman with her dreams abandoned, trying to live within the frames of "normalcy" - but this year the lake is very blue...

This one is pleasant, gentle story. Of course, you know what will happen, there is no twisted, complicated plot here. But the emotions are quite spot-on. Love, desire, heat of sun, waves, tragedies, forests and life just going on its way. This is the story about secrets needing to be told, the bonds broken and renewed.
The nature also plays its gentle, yet unforgettable part - like the silent companion, witnessing all, accompanying some. Like the blue colour of the lake of the summer of your young love - you will alaways think of that colour when thinking about that summer.

When you need uncomplicated, yet not fluffy book for your relaxed summer evening read, try this unassuming book and enjoy.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was not what I expected at all but it tugged at my heart in so many ways. I thought that the plot was really well thought out and I loved the alternating dual perspectives. I actually don't typically like dual perspectives but the way that this was done flowed really well. I had a hard time putting this down because at the end of each chapter I needed to know more. I loved the characters of Jess and Daniel and I grew to love Mamie as well. Watching Jess work through her thoughts and feelings as the story progressed was the best part of this book. I would definitely recommend this book to others.
