Prisoner of the Queen by E. Knight is a historical fiction novel set in the court of Queen Elizabeth I. It tells the story of Lady Katherine Grey, a cousin of the queen who is imprisoned for her role in a plot to overthrow Elizabeth.
The novel is well-written and engaging, and Knight does an fantastic job of bringing both the characters and setting to life. The supporting cast is also well-developed, and the reader understands the intrigue and danger that pervaded the Tudor court. Katherine is a complex and sympathetic character. The reader is rooting for her even as she makes some questionable choices.
The plot is fast-paced, has many twists and turns, and the reader is never quite sure what will happen next. The novel also raises interesting questions about power, ambition, and loyalty.
Overall, Prisoner of the Queen is an excellent historical fiction novel I highly recommend to anyone interested in the Tudor period or stories of women in power.
This novel represents great historical fiction and I enjoyed it very much. There is tragedy and romance and the games that the court plays I learned much of the Tudor period.
Many thanks to Lake Union Publishing and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
