This book, which was in some way reminiscent of The Day the Crayons Quit, is about a bunch of shapes [Triangle, Square, Circle, Rectangle, Rhombus (fondly called “Diamond” by friends) and Oval], that attend the Shapeston Elementary School along with the kids.
When auditions for a new play at the school are announced, the shapes are really excited and that's when they're introduced to the reader one by one, along with the roles they have previously portrayed.
E.g.:
Triangle - the sail of a sailboat
Square - stamp
Circle - the lens of a magnifying glass
Rectangle - a tablet
Oval - a skating rink
Diamond - kaju ki barfi (an Indian sweet)! Wait! I mean..kite!
Much to everyone's delight, everybody gets selected for the play and the preparations begin.
This is a fun picture book, which children would certainly enjoy. And I'm sure it'd also teach them to take notice of the shapes of different objects after reading the book.
