After really loving In the House Upon the Dirt…, I went into this book with high expectations, which is a disservice to Scrapper. It’s its own book, with its own flaws, which might not have stood out if I hadn’t want to love it so much. Kelly, a scrapper in a destroyed Detroit, find a kidnapped boy. What follows feels like story that is stretched too thin and prose that tries too hard. This was a miss for me, but I will follow up on what Bell does next.
