Trash Cinema features 55 essays from more than 40 film writers talking about movies such as Killer Klowns From Outer Space (1988), Last House on the Left (1972), Tremors (1990) and many more. I honestly hadn't heard of quite a few of the movies that are mentioned in this book before reading it.
After reading the essays, I'm ok not knowing them. For some, the author's reason the movie is great is because of "boobs and bush." That's great and all, but what else does the movie have? Others have long, violent rape scenes. I felt like they were trying to convince me not to see the movies sometimes.
In other essays, like the one about Blacula 2, it was written so well and in such a fun tone, that now I need to see it. The book is definitely a mixed bag, but I like that you get some insight into each film and what the world was like at the time. I'd recommend it to fans of b-movies, z-movies and "trash" movies.
I was provided with a free copy of this book by NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
