In my experience, Jeanette Winterson more or less bats .500: either I love her books or I can't get an ywhere with them. Unfortunately, this was one of the can't-get-anywhere titles.

I went in to this story with no knowledge of Shakespeare's Winter's Tale, and I now must hunt it down and read it. This was a fabulous book, full of well-developed characters and distinct settings. The plot was well-paced, and the tension built to the very end. Wonderful, and highly recommended.
