This is a good read.
Kim Law writes with insight and understanding especially regarding the issues of mental health and family dynamics.
The heroine was a little too good to be true, in the beginning. But as she finally started to pursue her own dreams, I started rooting for her.
The hero is multi dimensional and obviously loves his daughter and the heroine.
The setting of Montana is beautifully written.
I look forward to reading more from Kim Law.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an arc in exchange for my honest review.
Montana Cherries is a great book. The story is not easy to tell. Kim Law tells a story that deals with a mental illness and how it affects a family. The fallout from this illness is disastrous to everyone in the family. I do not have much experience with mental illness but I do know that Montana Cherries is told with dignity, grace, and understanding to all those who have to deal with this in their real lives.
I felt for Dani. She grew up with distorted memories of her deceased mother. These memories haunt her and make her strive to do everything possible to make her mother happy. Unfortunately for Dani these memories made her give up her life to play “mother” to her brothers. I wanted her to go to New York, I was ecstatic when she did go, and even happier at what happen while she was there. By dealing with the past she was able to move on with her life and find her future.
Ben, oh alpha, sexy Ben. I was his biggest fan. Ben needed to figure out how to win Dani. I truly believe that they are the perfect (or as close to perfect as can be)couple. Ben proved himself to me again and again with how he dealt with his adorable daughter, Haley. Men like him are rare. The respect, love, and understanding that he showed Dani and her entire family made him a real man in my eyes.
I cannot end this review without talking about the location. I have never been to Montana, yet I could picture the ranch, the towns, and the beach as Kim Law described them. I want to live in the house with all the rooms, windows, deck, and family that Dani learned to love again in. I want to see the area that Ben and Haley put roots down in. Montana Cherries played like a movie to me. I could hear the characters, see the scenery, and feel the emotions as I read.
Definitely pick up this book. You will not be sorry.
Thank you to Netgalley and publisher Montlake for the opportunity to read and review this novel.
I haven’t read any of Kim Law’s work before and it certainly won’t be the last.
While there is romance it is the family and psychological drama aspect that held my attention. The main character Dani was for me, captivating as her life unfolds.
The publisher’s blurb is an excellent introduction to the story.
Recommended read.
I was given this book free in exchange for an honest review.
I REALLY liked this book. It's about a woman, Dani, who gave up her dreams years ago to return to the family cherry farm and take care of her father and brothers after her mother's death. It seems her whole focus in life is to take care of them and "make her mother proud". She has finally decided to go to New York and pursue her dream job in marketing--after all the brothers are grown. About that time, an old family friend and man Dani had her first sexual encounter with comes to stay and brings the daughter he doesn't know how to be a father to. Dani, of course, wants to fix that too. She's also still very drawn to him, but they do have a time limit because she's leaving very soon.
There's a lot of screwed up family issues in this book, but who's family isn't screwed up? This book takes it a bit farther and injects some mental illness for one and therapy for several characters. These people really do love each other and that's what makes it work.I loved the give and play between Dani and Ben and the growing relationship between Ben and his small daughter. Those relationships were as sweet as the cherries in the book's title. I'll definitely be reading more by Kim Law.
I really enjoyed this story. I found it to be well written, with great characters and a heartwarming plot.
Would recommend to others.
I am an avid reader, but it is a rare occurrence that I can’t put a book down until completed. That happened to me with Montana Cherries! I am now a fan of author Kim Law. I loved the dynamics between Dani and Ben. The sub stories were as much an integral part of the story as Ben & Dani. If you are looking for just a light romance or chick lit this isn’t for you! This is a book about love, forgiveness, family and learning how to heal! Not to diminish the love story it is there, but the family dynamics and forgiveness was what kept me reading til all hours. Kim Law tackled a tough subject of mental illness and how it affects the entire family not just the ill person!
